Rights for Credit card debts

Thread Starter
Do I have any rights concerning credit card debt? I know we signed up for them and agreed, etc.... But for one of the two we have, signed us up for insurance that we didn't opt for, charging us, and when not paid, of course paying interest/late/overlimit fees on top of them. (DH was basically unemployed the whole year. )They are both in collections. And last year I paid them down under $150 from their max limit. They are now doubled, all just fees.....

Advice anyone? It would be nice if someone would tell me that we don't have to pay the fees! :LOL

Thanks for your input.

you can challenege those fees. The burden of proof will be on you so make sure you ahve all your statements showing that all the fees etc we on this insurance crap. Did you contact the cc company and te,, them you didn't want insurance etc? If you didn't and let it ride all this time that could hurt you. if you have been in contact with the credit card companies have any documention of that. and it will be up to youto take them to court.

another option ismediation of sdome sort. suually they will take off the fees etc if you agree to pay what the fees were originally on.

if it were me I would start with consumer crdit cuonseling.

I agreee with you that you are of course responsible for paying all your charges but don't think you should have to pay for insurance you didn't sign up for (oh, but be sure to read the fine print of your card agreement and make sure you didn't sign up for it). however it isn't something should just be ignored and if you did I feel you may be somewhat resonsible. even if it is a bogus charge you can't just ignore it and hope it goes away.

hope everything works out
