Need advice on how to help a friend

Thread Starter
I just got an email from a friend (I don't know her REALLY well) that said that she didn't make it to playgroup today because she is at home with cabbage in her bra to help her dry up! Her baby is about a month old and has been colicky and her Dr told her that the baby could be allergic to the protiens in her milk and to stop BF and give hypoallergenic formula! And she did! I'm just not sure how to approach it, I HAVE to say something, right? I was planning on emailing her back. I need to word it so that I'm not sounding condecending or AMA, but supportive. I need all the articles, resources I can get my hands on to support my satements. Any help is appreciated, TIA!

Check out www.kellymom.com and type milk allergy into the search feature. Though it may be hard to not have her read your e-mail as accusatory, depends on how much she wanted to breastfeed in the first place.

Sometimes people are just looking for a reason to not breastfeed. She may not want help. I would just word it that sometimes infants in these cases don't have to be weaned (contrary to popular belief) and if she's interested in continuing to nurse to call you ASAP. A mom who really really want to nurse, will call! If you don't get a call from her, then she probably doesn't want to.
