exactly! If I found out my child's "own" snack was being refused them then I'd really have a problem with it. :

At my dd's Kindergarten class, each child brings in their own snack each day. It is more of a hassle to have to think about it each day, but I think it works out better because I know exactly what she is having.

On the topic, I think it is horrible to withhold food from a child. I may say no dessert after dinner if such&such isn't done, but I would never take away a complete snack or meal. I think that going a long period without food at that age could have bad consequences. I hope you get it straightened out.

oh give me a break!!! they are in K for heaven's sake. of course little boys will run in empty halls.

but to withhold snacks from them - esp. since its a cookie (can you imagine how badly they might have wanted one) is huge.

i would definitely let the teacher know of my displeasure of that policy. and definitely bring it up with the principal if it keeps happening.

i can relate to a child being disciplined. but with food. no way.

Food should never be used as punishment. End of story.

Ditto!! Between obesity, anorexia and a whole host of issues in between there just simply is no excuse to use food as any kind of reward or punishment in this day and age. I would definitely be speaking with the teacher and on up to the principal if I felt it wasn't being addressed. This is unacceptable!

OP, is your son a kindergartener? I didn't see that in the original post and, from your signature that listed his bd as 1/00, I'd assume that he'd be 8 y/o and a 3rd grader probably. Not that denying food to a 3rd grader is acceptable either, but it seems like all of the posters are assuming him to be a kindergartener.
