I splurged on some organic microterry from nearseanaturals.com a while back and have used my scraps as wipes for DD. They rock! so soft and velvety and absorbant etc.

I don't have a serger, so just cut squares and zig-zagged the edges-none of that messy terry fluff either!

I bought several yards of microterry and used it for my wipes. They are by far my favorite wipes!!!

Are these found in the automotive dept? I was at Target today and remember someone mentioning micro-something being in the auto dept and sure enough I found them! They were SOOOOO soft. I didn't get any though, but now I'm wishing I did. Maybe next time. Oh, and they were 5.99 for a pack of 5 decent sized "wipes".

I thought I'd heard that microfiber shouldn't be used against baby's skin because it's so absorbant it'll dry it out. But maybe that's more for diaper inners that stay against the skin for a while instead of wipes that are used briefly. Did anyone else hear anything like this, or did I imagine it? :

Microterry - also called microfiber usually does not contain any natural material - 100% synthetic - usually with rayon and polyester. This is the fabric that Fuzzi Bunz uses in their inserts for their pocket diapers. You can find microterry in the automotive section or the housecleaning sections at big super stores. It does not really absorb since there is no cotton in the fabric. It traps moisture between the fibers.

An organic microterry is likely a small baby loop terry cloth - and if it's organic, it will be 100% cotton - this will be a TOTALLY different fabric that what is described above.

I personally hate the 100% synthetic microterry / microfiber But an organic terry cloth I'd use.

Hope that clears things up.

I've used microterry for wipes, it works pretty good. I've made one side the terry and the other side flannel, I like that the best.

microterry on the way

I ordered some microfiber terry on ebay when that was the only place to look for cloth diaper-making stuff a month ago. It should arrive in the mail today. I have since heard both that it breaks needles and that it is easy to sew. I've heard that it's not very absorbant, and that someone tested it, and it (by the yard, not from wal-mart) is more absorbant than hemp french terry. So I don't know. If it were a regular store, I'd be tempted to take it back, but it's ebay, and I don't want to pay for shipping, so I guess we will see soon.
I do know not to use it as an inner layer on diapers so it doesn't dry out baby's skin. I may sew (if I can) fleece onto one side to use in my covers. I am glad to hear about using it for wipes--I hadn't thought of that before, so thanks!

Thanks for the info!! No wonder there's so much confusion about "microterry", it's the same term for two different fabrics!!
