Just curious, after someone's comment about homeschooling for "only five years". I'm only counting years when your child is actually "school-age", so starting from the age he or she would have gone into kindergarten. I guess it really needs to be a two-part poll, too - the first part is the number of years, and the second is some more specifics about the years. I hope it makes sense!

Dar

P.S. By "Years not consecutive", I mean someone who maybe homeschooled for kindergarten and first grade, then sent her child to school for second, then homeschooled for third... so, three years total, but not consecutive years.

: Gee, thanks for giving me my own category - I didn't think at first that I'd be able to find one that fit... - Lillian

I said two years. Montessori program starts at age 3--"real school" not preschool so I counted it. It's been all the same work we do now, even more actually with the set up and the Mommy-schooling, but she would be in PS Kindergarten this year.

Ds went to school for K and 1st, was home for 2nd, back to school for 4th, and left to unschool shortly after starting 5th. For Dd it was Kinder and 1st at school, and then left just after starting 2nd. It's been almost 5 years since we left school.

This is our first "official" year. Ds would have been in kindergarten here, but isn't

This is our sixth year. I said 6 or more. We have completed 5 years...and still trying to find just the right rhythm!

Beginning our second year. Joe is in first grade & has never stepped into a school- wait, yes he did, he had to pee when we went to his cousin's Halloween parade 2 years ago.

I voted 1-2 years since dd would be entering 1st grade. For the record though, Kindergarten is not mandatory in our state, so she wasn't *legally* school aged til last week

Checked 3 to 5 yrs because we would be second grade right now, but also because we officially announced to the world that we were homeschooling preschool right before dd turned 4, joined a homeschool support group, etc. And, that is actually the year we were most structured, or I should say more organized, since we were unschoolers at heart even then

5 yrs.

Ds1 was in 3rd grade when we pulled him out. Dd went to ps Kindergarten, has been home since. Ds2 would have started Kindergarten this year.

Oops ... I voted before reading the first post. : So, officially, we haven't started "homeschooling" as my older son is only 4. But the way I voted before reading the specifics was 3-5 years because I believe "homeschooling" starts at birth. So, you can disregard my vote or take it for what it's worth.

My oldest child will not be officially school-aged until 2006-07. So we're technically not doing it yet. But we're very rare in our town for not doing preschool.

Us too, only London did have a week of science camp at an elementary school last year.

We're in our third yr. One child went back to school, two are home, and one has never been to school at all.
We're in our 7th consecutive year.

Both kids unschooled from the start. Dd is eight and ds is seven. Unschooling is a funny one because there is no start from age 5. It's pretty much a continuation of what we've been doing from the day they left the womb. Living and learning....learning and living....all the same.

Well, my oldest would be in 3rd grade, and my middle guy would be in 1st, so I said 3-5
post #18 of 19
My oldest is technically in 4th grade, so 5 years altogether. My kids have never been to school.

I said 3 to 5 years. We just started our 4th official year!
