I have 3 groups of kids at my sons small private school. Kinder, 1st & 2nd then 3rd & 4th then 5th & 6th. Anyone have cool art projects for any of those ages??? I'm searching online & there's SO much.... Any personal experience would be great!

There are sooooo many things. One thing that i did with my ds and a friend the other day (They are kindergarten age but it would probably be better for grade 2 or 3) was a "windy" fall tree picture. On a sheet of finger painting paper put a blob of ink or thin paint. The kids use straws to blow the ink accross the page. As it moves it branches in al sorts of directions. We then took bit's of tissue paper in "fall colours" red, yellow, orange and so on and pushed them over the eraser end of a pencil to make a sort of cup. We dipped bottom of the tissue cup in a bit of glue and pressed it to the paper. When you take the pencil away the cup sticks and is a cluster of leaves on a branch of the tree. Cover the branches with leaves. It could also look nice with pink tissue as spring flowers.

I don't have so much experience with older children, but I would look up the terms "process-based art" for younger ones, if you're doing an online search. If a book, Susan Striker's ideas are great; and there's another woman who has a great book : Discovering Great Artists: Hands-On Art for Children in the Styles of the Great Masters by MaryAnn F. Kohl. You look at pictures by the "masters" and then use the same style/technique for your work. I.e. Van Gogh's tiny dots, etc. There are lots of multimedia in there too - i.e. Eric Carle's books take tissue paper and then paint over it...

what do you want ? a finished product or something open ended?if i knew what the goal was then i could help you . for younger children i highly recomend "don't move the muffin tins" that is art for younger children. what kind of material are you using? recycled every day material or store bought stuff? lots of luck. i LOVE doing art with children. i wish i could do it all day long

I really have no restrictions. I have a decent budget, so I was going to try & do a few nice projects with them that would leave them with something usable. I want to do some things that most kids don't get to do in art. I have a batik painting week planned. I have a very simple doll to make from socks. I have a watercolor lesson using "real" watercolors. I REALLY like to do projects that let thim search for something recycled they can use and give another life to (like a sock mis-match from home for the doll) I'm open to anything really.

I was going to recommend Kohl's Discovering Great Artists, as well. We homeschool, but I've gotten some good ideas out of that book.

Kohl has a number of other books, also. Here's her website: BrightRing.com.
