Darling Diaper pocket question

I LOVE the Darling Diaper pattern. However, I have a question. I am going to make some fleece outer/flannel inner pockets. I usually use microfleece inside, but I want make some with cotton against his skin. I want these pockets to be water-resistant if possible (thus the fleece outer).

What is the best method to ensure that the fleece outer rolls in to keep the flannel from wicking? I sewed the elastic to the fleece side before turning and that helped, but I would like to see it roll in even more.

I would appreciate any suggestions from the expert pocket makers out there.

In the area where the elastic starts and ends add an extra inch to the outer or take off an inch of the inner. Match up the edges of both and straight stitch or serge them together right sides facing each other and then sew the elastic to the fleece side.. that will help it roll in farther. Oh and lastin rolls better for me than knitted but 1/4 inch knitted elastic rolls better than 3/8.. again, just my experience.

Thanks so much Jenn! I made one while my baby was sleeping yesterday and it turned out perfectly using your technique. My flannel inner was undetectable from the outside and he wore the diaper for 3 hours without any wicking. I can't believe I am using flannel as an inner and fleece as the outer and that thing does not wick or get saturated. I can't wait to make up a bunch!

Well I'm glad. I use flannel on VB AIO's all the time and velour too.
