Dumb Birthpool Question(s)

Ok.....please first and foremost excuse the dumb question....lol. We have been debating the pool issue and I just cannot seem to wrap my head around one small detail.....we will be delivering in February, and I am wondering how in the world I am going to get rid of this water in the tub????? I have visions of DH taking buckets for hours and dumping that way. Also the only place sturdy enough in our townhouse is the kitchen...and once again in February how will we keep the water warm??? Financially I am struggling with al of the equiptment we need to buy for the birth and then trying to decide if an aquadoula is better or a kiddie pool. I am not a small person so I don't want to attemt the tub...just seems uncomfortable. DH...bless his heart suggested that the shower would work out just fine......I guess being that he never birthed a baby he cannot understand that it is NOT the same...lol.

Any suggestions?????

Not a dumb question at all. I am planning a water/homebirth. EDD is today...


I bought my birthing tub/equipment from an on-line waterbirth supplier. I talked with her and told her I needed an electric pump to inflate the pool in a little bit of time (it's deep and wide to accomodate my large body), and I also needed a pump to take water completely out of the tub in a little bit of time just in case we needed to dump and refill.

Now I spent a lot of money and bought the deluxe kit. In hindsight if I had just started buying supplies earlier, I could have found most of this stuff cheaper. Also, the plastic tarp supplied was dirty (it's recycled material and has grainy stuff in it as well) and the hose has a warning that it contains lead, so obviously can't be used for the home birth! I called the owner and told her and she agreed to take back the hose and tarp for a full refund. But the cost to ship back to her is about the same amoutn as the refund. SO we'll use the hose outdoors.

Hope that helps. Also, my midwife said a lot of stuff for homebirth I could have found at Big Lots and/or dollar store (shower curtains, mirror for underwater, flashlight, towels and washclothes) I also did some shopping at Walmart which helped to keep supply costs down.

Get a kiddie pool and a pump- still cheaper than the aquadoula. We just pumped the water out (the pump attaches to a hose) into the yard, but you could go into the sink or other drain too.
