Well, we finally have some down time and Ryan is holding Meilana, so I'm anxious to tell our story. Monday morning, around 2 A.M. I got a contraction that woke me up. I figured it might be a false alarm so I tried to go back to sleep, and consistently got woken up every 10 mins. So, I got up about an hour later, went online for a bit (posted a bit on this site), and was very comfortable, still having contractions consistently. I finally decided to go back to bed around 4 AM, wondering, "is this it?". The alarm went off at 4:45, and I told Ry what had been happening, so he decided maybe he'd play it safe and stay home with me, since I had an appt. with the midwife that morning anyway. Contractions were about 6-8 mins. apart at this point. I was breathing through them ok, but they were getting a lot more intense. I decided to take a shower, and that's when everything really kicked into high gear. Contractions were very intense and I had to lean on the shower wall to get through them. That's when we decided to call my midwife. I talked to her and she said that I sounded pretty calm and that I should stay home for now and meet her at her office at 9, so she could check me out. Well, about one hour later my pretty bad ctx got nearly unbearable. Peak after peak after peak, now they were about 2 min. apart and not showing any signs of letting up. Ry was so wonderful. He stayed calm and helped me through each one. At the same time he was trying to get things together for the hospital. Suddenly, everything in me told me we needed to leave NOW! I wasn't speaking in full sentences, and this part is still kind of blurry to me. We called the midwife and told her to meet us there. Well, we were not even 5 minutes down the road when I felt an overwhelming urge to push. The hospital is still 35 mins. away, mind you. So, I just shut my eyes and went inward, moaning with each urge to push, holding her back. (He tells me it was a good thing that I had my eyes shut because he was passing on the shoulder and flying through town) I was not going to have this baby in the car! 25 mins. later we got to the hospital. Ry pulled up to the ER, didn't even park the car, grabbed a wheelchair and wheeled me in. The security guard askd if we had been to registration and I responded, "I have to PUSH!". They rushed me up to L&D, I got in the room and the nurse tried to get me in a gown. I said, "forget about the gown!" I jumped on the table on all fours, she checked me, said I was full (um...I know! I could have told you that) My mw hadn't arrived yet, so the on-call Dr. came in and said I could push with the next contraction. It felt sooo good to push! I had a bulging bag of waters and the Dr. was terrified that it was going to break on her. She broke it and with the next contraction the head was almost out. Next contraction, head was out, and she said, "ok the next push and you'll have your baby...oh...wait...here she comes!" And, she was out. 4 pushes. 10 minutes later my midwife showed up. It was so unbelievable. Way too close of a call, but I think I was so relaxed laboring at home that I just progressed lightning fast. The Bradley classes helped us so much and Ryan was such a good support for me.
I am so in love.

Nursing was challenging at first, but we're both getting the hang of it.
Next time, maybe we'll make it a homebirth.
