Suggestions for a great vegan cookbook

My sil is not into health food at all. She has developed allergies to milk products and eggs in the past 2 years. I want to get her a good vegan cookbook for Christmas. Any suggestions? BTW- she isn't much of a cook.

I got "How it All Vegan" out of my library and found it a fun book with pretty simple recipes in it. I didn't end up making a lot from it before I had to take it back, but it would be a good one to look into.

honestly, the best food i ever ate as a vegan was never from a vegan cookbook. i've always had much better luck taking a good non-vegan cookbook and veganizing it... using egg replacer and soy milk when necessary.

I like Laurel's Kitchen. Also the Farm has several cookbooks that have been written by their residents. You can access it through the Farm's homepage.

Though it's not as pretty as some of the other cookbooks, my favorite is "Ecological Cooking" by Joanne Stepaniak. Really tasty recipes! Try the mushroom barley soup, miso dressing, and cream of tomato soup. Also has good recipes for the basics like nut cream/milk.

Ecological Cooking is great, it's a small book but absolutely jam packed with recipes that are straight forward, simple and very very good. I love the empanadas from that book.

My all-time favorite is The New Farm Vegetarian Cookbook. It's vegan except for honey.

Wow, I haven't bought cookbooks for so long, I don't know any of the ones listed so far! I love The Uncheese Cookbook. Also May All Be Fed, John Robbins. There's an excellent one, Chinese Vegetarian Cookery, I forget the authors. There are some egg recipes, but tons for vegans to choose from.

Vegan Mediterranean has delicious recipes from all around the sea (many countries) that are easy to prepare and none of them have any soy, which is a nice change for a vegan cookbook.
