Ok, I will admit I was a bit disturbed last night when I first saw what's going on. Our 6 month old kitten, from Midnight's last litter, has come back to the breast. He has 4 little siblings who are 6 weeks old, and nursing, and we kept him from her last litter. (She has a "getting fixed" appointment, no more baby cats, I promise!)
I had been very worried, because about a week ago, Midnight was running a fever one night and since then I had not been catching her nursing the baby cats. They have been eating cat food often, and I would see them try to nurse while she was at the food bowl.
I have caught her nursing several times in the last few days, so that encouraged me that she is in fact still nursing them. She EN'ed her last litter, they were about 13 weeks old when she weaned! I held off giving the cats away because they were still nursing and I didn't want to get in the way of that, you know? Sensitive to EN and all.
So I guess her older kitten coming back is a good thing... I am sure it is increasing her supply, which I determined had been down for a while. Perhaps she asked, inasmuch as she can, for him to do that?? I mean, what a way to increase supply! And he had not been nursing previous to these past few days, I wonder what would make him all of a sudden want to come back to the breast?
He is going to be one well adjusted kitty!
Anyone ever have this happen with their animal?????
