Sophie Jade was born at 9:50 pm on Wednesday, September 21, 2005. She weighed 8 lbs 5 oz and is 19.5 inches long. Labor was intense but fast – I started feeling contractions for real about 2 or so on Wednesday and knew we needed to head up to the hospital by around 4… I was 8 cm by the time we got to triage, and then went into transition in the tub. After a lot of really really uncomfortable contractions (I wouldn’t call it pain, just extreme discomfort like the worst cramps possible with feelings of nausea) I felt pushy, climbed out of the tub and onto all fours on the bed, my head in Tony’s blessed lap. He wiped the sweat off my back and soaked a lot into his shirt and shorts while I pushed for 45 minutes. She came out crying and with great color, and I did my best to hold her against my sweaty chest!
We’re home now, taking shifts. My mom is here – she saved our sanity last night by taking Sophie (who is a crier and an extreme suckler – she needs to have something in her mouth – will she be a saxophone player like her papa?) while dad and I slept for about four hours.
I had the tiniest tear with no bleeding, and the entire birth was unmedicated.
Gonna go nap!
