Please advise re: son's congestion

Hi. I've been lurking in this forum but am coming out in search of some wisdom, or maybe just a kick in the butt to quit dairy. Here's some background:

DS is about 4 months old and exclusively breastfed. At 3 weeks of age his older sis had a cold, which I thought he caught. He was congested and his nose was running, although most of his congestion seemed postnasal. At his 4 week ped visit he was diagnosed with an ear infection, for which I gave him the prescribed antibiotics.

The ear infection cleared up, although the ped said there was still some fluid behind his ear. We have not been back to the ped since, and while the postnasal congestion seemed to clear for a few days, it is back and has not left. Nothing drains from his nose, but I can clearly hear it back there. He has had a couple brief episodes of greenish, mucousy poops, but for the most part they seem fine. Maybe a little runnier and less seedy sometimes, but I have been attributing that to excessive drooling and possibly teething.

His appetite is normal, his weight gain is enormous, he is a happy baby who sleeps normally, etc. But what of the congestion?? I have halfheartedly tried limiting my dairy but I always fall off the wagon. Is that what I need to try? I need some advice... or just a kick in the butt to try an elimination diet. Please give me your suggestions.

Many thanks!

Try going of dairy for atleast 2 weeks and see if it helps... I'm a vegetarian and managed to do it, so you can do it too...

You can also try chiropractic, craniosacral therapy, probiotics, codliver oil, juice plus, drinking white tea or pomeganate juice. Any thing to boost his and your immune systems.

Kick the dairy!

But before you do, you really need to find some substitutes that work for you. Cheese is out. Casien is in most cheese subs.

But milks are easy and cream is easy. Coconut milk, Vance's dari-free, almond milk. etc..

Ice cream, Rice Dream is pretty good. ORRRR Hagen Daaz chocolate sorbet OMG!!!! it is good.

You probably fall off of the wagon due to lack of fats that you were getting from dairy. Pay attention to what triggers your dairy desires.
