Help me solve a couple of problems...

Okay, so I have 2 problems I need help with...

first, I haven't figured out how to add fold back tabs to my side aplixing diapers. Does anybody do this and how do you manage so that they don't scratch the baby when you put the diaper on the baby.

2- Some of my fleece is picking up serious fuzzy lint when I wash them. Is this the fleece or am I forever doomed to be picking fuzz? My red fleece seems to pick up a lot more fuzz than my light blue fleece. (It's not just a visibility thing... the red ones really are fuzzier.) The red fleece I have is MM 100 wt, the light blue is MM 100 wt lining fleece (it's just fuzzy on one side, but is the same thickness and functionally they're the same) Any ideas on how to keep them fuzz free?

TIA!

I do side aplixing pockets using the Darling Diaper pattern and I love them! I sew the fold back tab (loop) on the inside of the diaper before doing the straight stitch before turning. I don't worry about it touching my baby because the wings are tucked in when you close these diapers, so the aplix never touches him.

I especially love the side aplix because I have a boy and the wings are inside and there is some space between them where his penis is, so it is never smushed. It works great! Front snaps always press him down...

I don't know about the fleece. I have Walmart fleece and some is pilly and some is not. I have heard you can shave it off and it won't come back, but I don't know if this is true...

I'd thought of putting the loop there. Maybe I need to add more length to my front 'wings' so that they'll always cover the loop part. Right now they just meet when the diaper is on as tight as it'll go so I'm afraid that it'll be scratchy if I put it there and then need a bigger waist. I'll see what I can do with my pattern...

The problem with the fleece isn't pilling, that I can deal with (I now buy better fleece!) it's actual LINT that's sticking to them. I doubt I need a lint trap since the fleece is sucking it all up. It gets on the fleece in the washer and won't come off unless I take a lint brush or tape to them. That's way too tedious!

thanks for the suggestions!

Assuming everything else in the wash load is diapers, I would think you are only doomed as long as there are new diapers to give off lint. OK - I guess that seems insultingly obvious (sorry!) - but I know you have been busy making loads of diapers lately. I use MM fleece and have not had any problems with lint - but I keep using the same old inserts and they give off very little lint anymore. Do you wash any new lint-giving fabrics several times before adding them to the diaper load?

Of course not! Why would I do extra laundry :LOL

I'm hoping that eventually that eventually the fuzz will disappear. Until then, I figure I'll just live with fuzz. Most of the material I'm using for soakers is 'found' material... old towels, an old cotton blanket etc. But we're breaking in our premium prefolds these days too so I think a lot of the fuzz is coming from there. I'm a bit worried that they're going to fuzz forever but I refuse to do a load of pockets and a load of prefolds. I'd rather live with fuzz.

Thanks for giving me hope though!

I've seen these little ball thingies that you add to your washer or dryer to attract link and keep it off of your clothes. Check the laundry section for them...I'm not sure what they're called.
As for the fold-back tabs, for my Proraps that didn't come with fold-back tabs I keep a couple pieces of loop tape cut to the right size above the washer...before I throw the covers in the wash I just stick the loop over the hook and throw it in. It saved me a lot of time, not having to sew individual fold-backs on every single cover. It was kind of a pain in the butt at first, but once I got into the habit of doing it it's no problem!
