Wont stay in bed for naps

I am at the end of my rope. we have had a very blissful transition from crib to big girl bed. she loves it and has been napping willingly no problam. two days ago was the first time she finally realized all her toys were right there to play with instead of sleep. instead of just get the sleep i desperately needed and let her play quietly in her room i preceded to tell her to get into her bed over and over and over till i just got out of bed and we went shopping. the next day was normal she slept almost and hour longer then usual. today i was a bad mom i couldnt afford to not get a nap myself. we had had a very busy morning and she was tired but would not stay in her bed. she ended up taking off her panties and peeing on her pillow......twice!!!!! i dont know what to do. if she was an angel the rest of the day without a nap i would concider that she might not need one anymore but she is a crank pot the rest of the day. i am pregnant with twins and i cant handle this everyday.. i dont deal with anything well if i dont get my nap.

what do i do? HELP!

I had this problem with DS and we still have it at night sometimes. The only thing that works is if we stay at his door peeking in the crack so we catch him before he gets all the way out. We just keep telling him to go to sleep and keeping an eye on him til he actually falls asleep. I feel like the 15 minute investment standing there was worth missing out on a few extra private minutes to myself.

I also need my nap to feel sane and happy. Dd usually naps pretty well, but when she doesn't seem to want to, we get up and I take her for some activity or change of scene, and she virtually always naps later in the day.

If I'm really feeling exhausted, I close all the baby gates and lay down in the living room. Unfortunately I've never gotten sleep this way because Dd comes and tugs at my shirt, or my hair, or drops books on me. But maybe this would work for you. Just the laying down helps me get a second wind, at least a tiny one.

Well i know i could handle things better in order for both of us to get a rest. she usually would play quietly in her room and not try and leave. my problem is that if i can hear her playing i cant fall asleep. i just am not ready for her to give up the nap. i know she needs it she is not as plesent in the evening after not napping. it could be just a new stage. sounds like a lot of toddlers go through this
