grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! (just a vent)

I just serged together my diaper - that was btw perfect until that moment - I just TOTALLY screwed up in so many places on the serging!

I know I should be easy on myself - this is only the third diaper I serged and I'm still learning. But the first two came out so much better than this - really, I only goofed up once on the second one.

Okay, back to deep breathing and more practicing - lol!

You should have seen me when I sewed elastic incorrectly, using the supposed (manual calls it this) 3-step zig zag, with the legs rolling the wrong way and remaining in a stretched position (making it unuseable on my skinny thighed boy). I had to "unsew" the elastic, and it took FOREVER. I was sitting there ripping each and every part of that stitch to get it out.

Thankfully, I was able to salvage it and get something useable, even though I also had a snap debacle. My next diaper was much better!!! Keep practicing. It will get better.

serging isnt easy until you really get the hang of it- Im almost there but still occassionally end up cutting off some diaper and starting over again : It will get better w/ practice Mama HUGS

Thanks! I am getting better with the serger, I just have to remember that I can't go from a non-sewer to diaper-maker-extroidanairre in a month :LOL It is annoying that it was with the so-far-really-great diaper - the elastic was PERFECT. I can do the elastic really well now once I get it started (took me three times per piece to get it tacked down.)

What's funny is that dh can't wait to take pictures of my diapers to show to his mom, lol! Granted, I finished the first one, which was kinda goofy looking but worked, and he said "So is this the $400 diaper?" Because between the serger he bought me as an anniversary gift and the fabrics I've started collecting, it's IS the $400 diaper! :LOL

So that means the next one is FREE!!!!! (I can justify ANY sewing/craft purchases - just ask)

You might try serging some wipes first to get really confident with the serger. I am an experienced serger and I still find dipes a little tricky!

I agree that practicing on wipes and mama cloth helps a lot at mastering the serger...not that I'm anywhere near that. There is less to lose with a wipe or mama pad...if that makes any sense. I guess I can tolerate wonky pads, but I want diapers to be perfect.
Serging would be a good job for those magic gnomes! :LOL

:LOL Oh my gosh! Thanks for the hearty belly laugh!! I can TOTALLY relate! I haven't purchased a serger yet (still shopping), but my other supplies have the $$$ CHU-CHING meter ringing up quite a bit!
