Serging microfiber for doublers

I just made a couple doublers this morning out of two layers of microfiber sandwiched between two pieces of flannel. I just serged the edges, then got to thinking, will the little bit of microfiber that's exposed between stitches bother baby's skin, or will it be ok? I'm planning on using them with fitteds for nighttime diapering.

I would guess that the little bit would be ok. If you're really concerned you can re-serge them for a tighter serge that catches more of the hanger-outers or you can bind the edges with some fleece for example.

I didn't know that microfibre wasn't supposed to touch a baby's skin until about a month after we had been using microfibre clothes as doublers right against our dd pretty much every night. :

Our dd had no side affects from our ignorance. I'm guessing that your dc will be fine. I'd say that there's no need to problem solve unless you find that your dc reacts to the little bit that hangs out. I'd bet that it's not going to be a problem, since really, it can't be that much that will touch your child's skin.

doubler?

What about adding a peice of fleece on top of the doubler. you dont have to sew it down just lay it on top, that will give the baby protection from the microfiber and a waterproof barrier to boot.

thanks! I think it will be okay, but I've got some fleece lay-ins cut out, just in case

I would think that tiny amount would be OK. I agree with serging it a bit tighter to minimize the exposed edges.

i have no idea why it should be thought bad to let the microfiber touch a baby's skin, it is not a dangerous fabric, it is absorbent because of it's structure, not it's chemical composition.
