What serger do YOU have?

For those of you that have a serger... whick make and model do you have? What do you and don't you like about it? I've searched and have gotten alot of conflicting info.
Now I want to hear personal experiences.
Thanks.

I have a BabyLock Eclipse LX, which has the jet air threading like the Imagine, but not the auto-tension adjustment. Love it! The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't have a free arm. I also have a Bernina that does have a free arm. No complaints about the Bernina, it just doesn't get as much use because I change thread color quite a bit and it's easier to do on the BabyLock.

Before you buy one, take a pile of fabrics that you plan to use it on to the store and sit down and test out the machines.

I have an older (like 10 years) new home. It's a good machine, but nothing fancy. I do NOT like threading it. I am scared to look at the new fancy threading machines 'cuz I'll want one too much!

I have the kenmore.. Not the real pricey one- its like 225?? Works AWESOME through many layers..

I actually was going to post a message for you-
I wanted to see how you like the HB pattern and if youve made any pockets out of it yet? I have the pattern and well never used it.. it scares me because its soo long and the tabs thing well that freaks me out :LOL Im really interested in making a pocket though out of it- also what type of materials have you been using? Types of fleece because your diaper that I saw came out sooo darm cute

I have the Kenmore serger - it's the $350, but I got it on sale for $300. I think it works great and goes through enough layers for my needs. I also found it pretty easy to thread and the instruction manual has come in very handy when I have questions.

I have and love the Kenmore too! The middle one, about $250.

I've been wondering about this, too, because I'm hoping to get one soon. Does anyone know anything about Singer or White sergers? I've seen both and am wondering if the lower price really does say something about quality.

Good question! :

I have read lots of raves about the White 2000 ATS. There are some well-known diaper WAHMs who own this serger. I have not read good reviews of
Singer or lower model # White sergers.

FTR, I have a Huskylock 905 and I like it a lot.

I have a Babylock Eclipse, and It totally rocks.
I will be getting another serger soon, but only because i'd really like one that has 5+ threads (mine has 4).

I have a White Superlock model 534. My mom got it for me for $150. I haven't used it much. I can't get the tensions right on it for the life of me. I really don't have much time to sew anyway (maybe a couple hours a month?). It's frustrating, but I imagine it's just the operator .

I have a Juki MO-134, which is rock solid but old enough that it takes a year (so far) to not get an upper blade. I still don't have the dang blade.

I also have a Babylock something-or-other that's about 10 years old. It has more features like differential feed. For what I do, I actually do not like the differential feed.

For a year I used a minilock machine - cheapo brand, 3 thread, but it worked really well - for a $3 yard sale serger.

I have the Baby Lock Evolvè which I just LOVE. It is one of those ones with the built in coverstitch and as much as I love that feature I should have gotten a separate coverstitch machine. It is great though and I won't give it up for anything!

I have a Juki Garnet Line-MO-644D...I really like it. It's fast and strong and doesn't fuss over lots of layers.

I have a janome something or other. I love it.

I have the 2000 ATS and it has been great! I use it a lot for my biz, and haven't had any problems

I also have a White 2000 ATS that I got used at a Sewing Shop locally for $200. It was so barely used!

It's wonderful - I had an old Babylock that was really difficult and stretched my every nerve!

The White opens up really wide, I don't have any tension problems, it serges through everything I want and the only problems I have are user errors (forgot to put up the cage that holds the thread after putting it down for storage and now I have to re-thread part of it).

I think it's a very good machine for the price and I make a lot of diapers!

I have the Babylock Imagine Wave and i love the wave stich to finish off swaddling blankies! it is such a nice touch not to mention the jet air threading!!!

I've got an older Bernina 006 w/o differential feed. I got an amazing deal on it on ebay and love using it! It's a seriously hardy machine/goes through anything and is very solidly built. However, since I've started sewing w/ knits/velours a lot more I've missed having the differential feed. It really makes a difference in how knits serge up. I just got a Pfaff 4872 that I also . It's got differential feed (a must, IMO) and coverts to do the coverstitch. I'm still learning my way around it, but so far it feels really great!

I'd reccomend taking a load of fabrics into your local sewing machine shops and playing around w/ lots of different ones. I'd also go over to www.patternreview.com and read reviews on some of the different ones. Also, and this sounds strange, but I'd really see if a machine "feels" right to you before you buy it. Both my Bernina and Pfaff sergers "fit" me. I feel like we get along well and I feel comfortable using both. Now, my new sewing machine on the other hand. We don't "fit" as well. Kind of like 2 people who keep trying to be friends, but it's just not meant to be. I think I'm going to take her back in and trade for something else. I wish I'd spent more time sewing on the machine I bought and really got a feel for her first, but I didn't feel like it was necessary at the time. Now, i'll never buy a machine w/out spending more time on it at the shop regardless of whether or not I feel like the salespeople want me to!! :LOL
