Spotting, please keep me in your thoughts...

I am 8 1/2 weeks and started spotting lightly yesterday. Very lightly, not enough to stain my underwear, just when I wipe. It isn't brown but it isn't red. In the middle. I was hoping it would stop but it is there every other time I wipe.

I had a miscarriage a year and a half ago that began with very light spotting. I also have two special needs little boys and have been very selfishly praying that this could be my healthy little girl. I am 39, so I don't know that I am going to get another chance.

Please assure me that this could be OK and I ask for your thoughts at this scary time.

Raquel, spotting is really common but that doesn't make it any less terrifying. I hope it stops soon. Have you DTD recently or use progesterone? Either of those can irritate the sensitive cervix and cause spotting.

Do you have access to a care provider who can draw blood for you today and in two days to assay Beta HCG? Seeing reassuring numbers on the blood test can help ease your worry over the spotting.

Actually, the first thing I checked when I found out I was pg. was my progesterone. It was 30.

I will call my doctor but both of my kids are sick and I can't leave them with anyone. So, I don't know how I can get in to see him (even if he will see me) until next week.

I spotted lightly (similar to your description) on an off for about 3 weeks, with the last incident around 9 1/2 weeks. My ds is now almost 4 months old.

I'm in the same boat-- spotting since week 5.5 (am now at 7.5 wks) and I am sending you all kinds of good healthy pregnancy vibes. My gyno can literally give me no reason at all for my spotting, she said sometimes it just happens. Try to take it easy and drink a lot of water (the taking it easy part is probably difficult with 2 little boys who are also sick right now!).

I've had this too - lots and badly with my first DS, and a few very very small incidents this time.

One thing that is always helpful to me to think about is that one cause of spotting can be fluctuating hormone levels at the time you would ordinarily have gotten your period. Sure enough, I spotted every time I would have had my period my first pregnancy for about a week.

This time I got my first spot and mentally freaked out. Then I started counting days and realized it was exactly the day I would have gotten my period. I calmed down a lot just from that realization.

8 1/2 weeks is just about right for this to be what's happening for you, too.
