question about making VB pockets

If I were to make an all-fleece pocket diaper from the VB AIO pattern, does the outer layer need to be the heavier Windpro fleece that the instructions recommend? (in other words - if I practice this with Joann's microfleece, will it be a well performing diaper?)

Thanks!

Microfleece wicks, so I imagine it would not perform well as an outer layer.

Microfleece usually isn't treated to be waterproof, but most 200 wt and heavier are. If you wanted to practice, you could try some regular fleece like you'd find at Wal-Mart or Joann's. I've tried fleece from Wal-Mart and it works fine as a day diaper. It just doesn't hold wetness in overnight. HTH!

I was thinking I had to buy Windpro or something like that, but I have made pockets with JoAnn's and Walmart regular fleece and it works great. Last night my ds slept in a pocket made of JoAnn's no pill fleece stuffed with a huge microfiber auto towel and he woke up dry on the outside (but the insert was soaked). I don't think he is a huge wetter, but he does made a PF pretty wet with just one pee.

So I am making all of my pockets with Joann's no-pill fleece (which is on sale this week). I don't see the need to spend more when this is working so great for me.

Thanks so much! (some day I will be able to keep track of all these diapering fabrics and their properities LOL)
