I never heard of this. This is scary and never thought teens can do such things.

I heard about it on some kind of show on tv recently, the dangerous thing kids did to get a cheap high when I was a kid was stiff clue, gas, pr propane.

Thats some game. I wouldnt ever want to play. I am 14 now, and I've only heard of that once and our teacher talked about how bad it was in 7th grade. Thats the most I know.

Frightening...esp since my ds is 13. Talking to him about it just now he said he's never heard of it but thanks for letting the rest of us be more aware. My heart breaks for the other parents who found out too late.

We did this as children too, the press on you chest version. So scary. My brother went into convulsions once.

The 'held by the neck up against a door' version was done by my friends---back in elementary school.

My daughter is 25 and she went to a slumber party at age 14 in which the girls played that game. One girl passed out and was hospitalized. She is fine now.

The parents who hosted the slumber party did a lot of CYA.

Not to give anyone ideas, but in this game, the girls would stand up with theirs backs against a wall while another person put their hand around their throat and push them up. Supposedly there is a feeling of euphoria before they pass out.

So sad.

Yes, but the fact is they do everything and more.

I heard of games when I was in junior high (late 1960s) in which everyone brought a bottle of prescription drugs from home and threw the contents in a bowl; everyone just helped themselves.

so dangerous.

Oh my god. I've never heard of this. It is frightening to be a parent . . . all the stupid, trendy, physically/emotionally harmful, sometimes fatal things kids do with each other. Makes me want to lock the door and keep my kids in the house until they're old and strong enough to not be affected by peer pressure. Personally, I do not enjoy the kind of feelings this brings on as described by pps and the article . . . heck, I've never even been drunk because I hate the feeling of being out of control of myself (don't really even enjoy being tipsy). Hopefully that trait will be passed on to my children.

My heart just aches for these parents. I cannot even imagine.

I'm stunned by this.

Girls used to do this behind the library at my school. I was chicken. Once at a slumber party and girl did it and freaked out, she jumped out the window and was stumbling around, ran several blocks to her house (at midnight) with all of us following her in our pajamas, she hid under her bed and was shaking.

This was very sad....Colin was a friend of our pastor's son.....

I vaguely remember my older stepsisters showing me something similar as I child but not quite like that.

Both of my boys (16 and 12 yos) said that was pretty stupid. I'm glad they don't succumb to stupid peer pressure. I think it also helps to know your kids' friends; as far as what kind of people they are. I think there are risk-takers and kids who will try anything and then there are those who don't. I am very particular about who I allow my kids to hang out with. Fortunately, we haven't had issues like this.

This is how it was done when I was younger. We were really dumb. I can't belive I would do this. We would also inhale helium ballons till we passed out. I would be soo said if my dd started doing this. I'm just gonna have to educate her.

This happened to a boy I babysat for too. I babysat for him when he was really young at it happened when he was a teen. I still can't believe that he is dead.
Very very sad.

My question is. Whar are they running from? I mean they must be somehow unhappy in realworld so they myst get their head spinning. Previous generations have used alcohol and drugs for the same purpose. Why youngones can't get enough pleasure from normal life? Why they need more and more "feelings" from risky sources? Sad.

My girlfriend caught her high school daughter doing this with her cousins. She had a fit!!! She hauled them all into her family MD to get a lecture, they never did it again that we know of. It's really scary.

That's not necessarily true. There's a lot of, "hey, this is fun/this feels good" to things like that. Not everybody who plays this game or experiments with alcohol/drugs is trying to escape something. A big part of it is curiosity.

I've never played this game, but I remember some brothers at camp (14yo and maybe 19yo) used to do it with a couple of their friends.
