Frustrated and confused...

My ds1 developed minor excema about a year or so ago... just some dry patches on his butt and legs at first, then they were itchier, so I did some investigating. Cutting out soy seemed to completely cure the problem.

He's been soy free for about five or six months now, but the excema is back... I'm confused. He was excema free from about two weeks after I removed soy from his diet, so why would it come back now all of a sudden?

Should I try removing wheat? Dairy?

HELP!!! LOL!! FWIW The excema doesn't seem to bug him too much, but he is starting to scratch his bum now, so I want to nip this in the bud!

Thanks!

Perhaps the issue is not a food allergy to one or two particular foods but a functional problem in his digestion that is not breaking down food properly? This has been our experience.

My guy did better with removing a few foods. Then needed more removed. And more. And more... his gut needed healing was the root cause.

I apologize I'm sounding like a broken record on this board today

My DS developed excema when he was around a year old. At 16 months I found the problem (finally)...corn! He now gets some dry patches here and there, but a little lotion or lanolin almost always clears it up. DH's family all have problems with excema, allergies, etc...so I try my best to find the cause. Sometimes I think skin can just be sensitive too (new laundry detergent/soap/lotion/diapers?) I also give a probiotic every other day, which really seems to help with his digestion (formed poops, less rashes, etc.).

I would say look into environmental causes (carpets/soaps/diapers/detergent) to see if there has been any changes.
