My mother had 4 biological children (one sister is adopted). My oldest sister and my brother were both vaginal head down and I think with drugs (but not twilight).

My sister Martha had a prolapsed cord when the water accidently broke while the doctor was doing an internal so the doc had to hold her cord for 40 minutes between his fingers until the OR was ready for the c-section.

Because of the time (Martha was born in '68) and also the emergency situation my mom had a vertical incision and so I was a scheduled c-section 5 years later (2 days before my due date).

I was born in '72 after my parents took Bradley classes. My mom did labor w/o pain meds for a while, but did cave in for a bit of demerol.

She delivered my breech sister vaginally in '75. I don't know if that was medicated or not.

I voted breech, no pain meds though the OB insisted on a spinal for the actual delivery - he used forceps. My mom is still mad about it 37 years later.

I was a double footing breech and my mom's first baby. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO mom! :LOL

I was head down, vaginal, NO pain medication.

How do I know?

I was born at home with my Father delivering me.

I was their first child, and I was four pounds twelve ounces and fifteen inches.

I was very alert.

It was 1954.

Oh, yes, I was breastfed also, and this was two years before LLLI was founded.

I was vaginal, headfirst, unmedicated and her first child with 36 hours of labor, but she still considers me her easiest birth because my brother was much larger than I was and broke his collarbone coming out, my sister was induced and posterior so she was delivered with forceps, and my mom had been in premature labor with my baby brother for 16 days before he was finally born, he was also the only one she opted for pain medication with. We were all breastfed, although I remember she had to pump for my baby brother for a while.

I was born in the hospital in Missouri in 1979 on my due date, very long labor, drug free vertex and vaginal. My parents took lamaze, but the doctor wouldn't let my mom off her back, forced an episiotomy on her that resulted in a 3 way tear that took an hour plus to stitch(my first hour, when she wasn't allowed to hold me, they were afraid she would drop me while being stitched up).

My sister was born in the same hospital in 1982 on her due date, induced because the doctor was going on vacation( his annual fishing trip) the next day. They broke my mom's water, and she had a 3 hr labor, with the ob arriving a minute and a half before my sister was born. (My mom was mad because she was still charged full price for the doctor's fee :LOL )

I was born vaginally -- not sure about meds. -- a week and a half before my EDD. (My daughter was born vaginally, naturally, a week and a half before her EDD. My mom and I were the same age with our first pregnancies. :LOL )

My sister was born by scheduled C-section in 1982 because she was butt-first breech. I'm pretty sure it was a vertical incision.

I think I was breastfed for about 6 months. My sister was breastfed once, kind of. Mom says she bit her when she latched on, so my mother said "no way!" A little support and information about latching from the nursing staff probably would have gone a long way. :

My MIL have 3 natural childbirths and breastfed all 3.

I was my mom's 3rd baby. She'd been knocked out for the first and given some IV meds for her second which she hated. With me, she decided that she would get the drugs again. Had an appt on Friday with the doctor 3 weeks before i was due. Doctor said she could have an epidural but I wasn't coming anytime soon so she should go home and take is easy. The next day she was hanging laundry at 1:30pm and didnt' feel right. She called the ob who told her I wasn't anywhere near ready to come and she should just relax. She insisted and he agreed to meet her at the hospital. They arrived just before 2pm. My mom was ready to push me out but was waiting for my dad who thought he needed to "scrub in" first : (I was the first birth he saw.) In the meantime, they tried giving my mom an epidural. However, my dad walked in, my mom pushed me out at 2:05pm before the drugs could take effect. She still remembers the nurses talking about how you could tell I had no drugs b/c I was so active and alert.

Wish my delivery had been like that!

Well I wasnt really "head down" I had my arms above my head and kinda did a knife dive into the world.

Mom had no drugs either. Stranded beetle position in the hospital.

She said "It's not that bad"

She also said "Hospitals arent that bad why are you worried"

Whatever. She doesnt "get" some things.

Cesarean, 10 days past due, with Pitocin and meconium...

My little sis was a VBAC, not mom's choice, her OB's... she told him "give me the scalpel, I'll start cutting while you scrub up", but he insisted she VBAC! in 1985!

Apparently my mom slept through my labor. She woke very early in the morning thinking she had to go to the bathroom and thinks that was when her water broke. My dad got her to the hospital 10 minutes later and was still filling out paper work when I was born. This was in '73 when they would still shave down the woman and "prep" her - my mom didn't even give them time! :LOL She didn't bf though - the doctors told her formula was better. She's since told me that she would have totally bf me (and my older sister) had someone somewhere had told her it was good for the baby.

Vaginally, head down, with epidural. My mom doesn't appear to have any particular interest in natural childbirth. Times were different then I suppose. She didn't breastfeed either (or even attempt it). There was no such thing as maternity leave then so she was back to work when I was just 2 weeks old, and she only got that much time b/c she's a teacher and I was born at the beginning of the xmas break.

Head down vaginal, but posterior. My dad was present for the birth. He said nobody he knew had ever heard of the father being present for the birth. Mom was induced at exactly 41 weeks. I was born two days later. Mom was forced to labor flat on her back with pitocin induced back labor for 36 hours. She was denied food and water. They gave her a saddle block that didn't work. After being tortured for so long Mom was begging to be sectioned. Finally she stood up in bed and started yanking out her IVs. She announced she was going home now. They gave her a giant episiotomy and yanked me out with forcepts. I have a small scar on my face from the forcepts. She had reconstructive surgery recently to repair the damage they did to her from the episiotomy.

Mom says my brother's birth 5 years later was a breeze. He was not induced and they barely made it to the hospital on time.

I spent my whole life with mom telling me how horrible her labor with me was. She thought it might be genetic and I would have problems too. I didn't realize until after my dd was born (It was a fairly intervention free hospital birth) that it was the hospital that had tortured her and not me.

My mom was 16 when she had me. She was living in an unwed mother's hostel and went into labour naturally 2 weeks past her due date(Due Sept 20). She started active labour around Midnight(She thought she had a bad backache :LOL ) and started pushing by 4 in the morning. I refused to come down so they did an emergency c-section and I was born at 6:19 am!! Turns out I had a larger than normal fontanel (or an extra soft spot? My mom is not too clear on it) and refused to come down that birth canal!!! I was 6 lbs 1/2 oz

My sister came 3 1/2 years later VBAC style - 3 weeks overdue(according to my mom) The nurses didn't believe she was really in labour as she wasn't acting like it(she takes pain well ) and didn't believe that she was going to have the baby - finally after being d*cked around for a while she yelled "The baby's head is coming out NOW!!" The nurses were shocked to look between her legs and barely had time to catch my DSister!!! She was 6 lbs 1 oz

My baby sister was taken 6 weeks early by c-section for placental distress. Her placenta had latched right over top of *my* c-section scar and was pulling away from the uterine wall so after having contractions every 5 minutes for 2 minutes long for 3 weeks they just took her out! She was 5 lbs 12 oz.

I guess I should have replied. My mom had me in 1971 using Lamaze, and my dad was there. She was in labor for 2 hours, and after I was born, she blessed me saying, May you give birth this easily. Didn't happen.

Someone said something about "'70's Lamaze." How is that different from Lamaze now?
