I've been meaning to start my own thread like this one... but of course, then I found this
I have purchased Real Simple since its debut. I still have the Very First Issue.
In the beginning I simply could not get enough of the mag. I read it, re-read it, then re-read it again. I was amazed at the stunning, simple photography... I reveled in the genius (ingenius?) ideas... there were some articles I liked, some that were less-than-stimulating for me (and I was really glad when they ditched the comic on the last page... I liked their original poetry at the end much better).
But just this month, before even looking at the magazine to see what it had to offer, I saw it as a whole. And it was a whole lot of magazine.... and of course that meant a whole lot of ads.
Lining up your cosmetics (taking up three shelves!) so you don't forget something isn't simple to me. If you have problems remembering the 50 steps you take in the morning I think you need to reconsider the 50 steps. I you cannot live without a $200 tote, then you live in a much different world than I do. Same goes for $300 shoes. They better not just be comfortable, but take out the trash themselves in order for me to think about affording that in my lifetime.
There are good things still in there... but I think I'm looking harder and harder to find them these days... and that really saddens me. I have loved, loved, LOVED it since the beginning (and should have every single issue floating somewhere around the house)... but I don't think I'm going to renew my subscription when it's up.
