Yeah, I just read that too. He was only 50. You would have thought Johnny Rotten would have gone first.

very, very sad--he was definitely one of my favorites.

MTV2 had a great movie about the Clash on last weekend. (Yes, I am 34 years old and I watch mtv2! ) Westward to... somewhere. I can't remember the entire title. But it was good.
Anyway, yes, I did think Mr. Rotten would have beaten him. Oh well...

I was a devoted Clash fan in my youth so this is sad news. RIP is right.

BTW it's John Lydon--he hasn't been Johnny Rotten for a long time, since the mid-eighties I think. I would have said why is Shane MdGowan or Topper Headon still alive and Joe Strummer passed away.

Agree - so sad.

They had Thatcher and Reagan -- but we had the music. It sure helped didn't it? Like Billy Bragg said, "Without The Clash, punk rock would've just been a safety pin and a sneer."

"It's up to you not to heed the call-up.
'n' you must not act the way you were brought up
who knows the reasons why you have grown up?
who knows the plans or why they were made up?"

The sad irony is that Strummer pinched hit for Shane during a Pogues tour in the early 90s.

What happened? How did he die? The Clash was the first 'real' music I ever listened to. It was such an important part of my life for so long

We're always singing to my sister "Cherie Don' Like it, Wash the dishes, do the laundry" (yeah, she's Cherie)

RIP Joe Strummer You'll be missed

I loved the Clash too from when I was 14 years old. Even got to see them play once at Vassar College. Their music was definitely part of the soundtrack to my young, shaved head life. I love how they borrowed across musical cultures that paved the way for lots of world music to reach our ears. They also had a lot of important things to say. Thanks Joe!
