MOCHA MIX non-diary ice cream discontinued by Edy's

I have just confirmed with Edy's that they manufacture Mocha Mix, and that it has been discontinued. Their replacement product is Soy Delicious.

Mocha Mix was dairy free, egg free, and rice free. IMO it was the best non-dairy ice cream there was. Soy Delicious won't work for us because Evan is allergic to rice.

I just gave Edy's an earfull. If anyone else out there will miss this product as much as we will, maybe it would help if they heard from all of us. Probably not, but maybe.

Soy Delicious has rice in it?

Just a quote from years ago from a chemist friend: 'Now that I'm a chemist and understand what exactly is in Mocha Mix - I can't eat it!'

I never liked the ingredients in mocha mix.
I'm sorry to hear about your loss though...of icecream that is. What about making your own?

Have you had Tofutti? It's much more natural than mocha mix if it meets your needs.
I'd admit to having eaten the mocha mix - it's really good for a sugar free product. At least the stuff I've had is sugar free.

Yes, I'm thankful we still have Tofutti as an option, and a store that carries it. It's a little grainer - not as creamy. But I like that Tofutti seems commited to having a nice line of dairy-free foods. We use their sour cream, cream cheese, and cheese slices too. I will miss Mocha Mix though. Even my DH agreed it was the best - it fooled him. He's very picky and thinks our non-dairy food is icky but could not tell that Mocha Mix was dairy-free.

If I get desperate enough, like if the one store here that carries Tofutti stops carrying it, I will. I believe there is a recipe on a large forum for parents with food allergic kids for making ice cream from Dari-Free and corn starch. I'm not sure it can be stored though...I think you might have to make it and then eat it right away.

I have a great recipe if you son isn't allergic to egg white for strawberry 'ice cream'. It's a big hit around here, and easy if you have a stand mixer.

Thanks, but he is allergic to dairy, egg, and rice (also chicken, beef, and tomato, but those don't usually show up in ice cream )

We really like tofutti. The vanilla is good on pie, but I'm not crazy about it by itself. THe chocolate cookie one is YUMMY!
