~Nov/Dec 2003 Toddlers~ October Thread - Page 3

Shannon - the only reason Jesi is going out is because she's got two big sisters. I didn't take Mikayla out until she was about 4, before that she only went to grandma's house (which still landed her a big bag of candy ) We don't live in an area where the kids can go door to door - too rural - so we take them to see the grandparents, great grandparents and aunt and uncle. The last thing we need around here is more candy - the kids don't really miss out on going out, and they still get to dress up so they have fun. They would have just as much fun dressing up and playing around the house as they do going out (and it's less stressful)

another costume idea - I did this last year - get an old white sheet, tear it into strips and wrap K up like a mummy. I did this with Mikayla and Danielle last year and it was pretty cute. I put white sweats on them and wrapped over the sweats which didn't really work all that well because the wraps kept slipping off - thankfully we didn't go very far last year :LOL

Sherri, that's another neat idea! I wonder if my mother would let me rip up her sheets lol. I'm going to try and see what I can scrounge up around the house & see if anybody's ideas can work.

I completely forgot about the older siblings thing lol Is anybody bringing their baby around who doesn't have older siblings? Is 4 about the right age to start on it all?

Silly me, last year I thought that she would be able to go out this year & understand the whole concept.

Star- does she have a matching hooded sweatshirt and sweatpants in black or brown? You could sew old brown socks to the hood and put matching socks on her hands and voila you have a puppy!

I haven't decided what we are doing this year. Last year we went to SIL and went door to door. Evan loved it! He loves to copy his cousins. He could care less about the candy( thankfully) Mama, on the other hand...

DS has a stomach thing. He puked Thursday night and since then has had diarrea and no appetite. He will eat Cheerios and drink water but won't touch the Pedialyte. I'm going to all the ped tomorrow. His bowels keep getting looser and looser. Blargh!

I have a terrible sinus infection AGAIN. This time I'm on Augmentin, and it makes me sooooo nauseous. Dagnabit, I just finished with m/s. :LOL Oh well.

I'm already growing out of my maternity clothes that I had with Evan. And I'm only 20w tomorrow!!!! : I need to get DH to take some belly shots today or tomorrow.

Lori: your little girl is gorgeous. That newborn head smell is intoxicating, isn't it. Enjoy your baby moon.

Lori - That is amazing! You are the first person that I wouldn't think would be insane for wanting to do an unassisted! You basically were until the very end. An amazing story. It almost seems a waste of money for the midwife! :LOL And so lightning fast! Thanks for sharing.

Star~I saw the lamb costume in a magazine afew years ago, and for some reason, I remembered it, lol. I got the idea for the fairy wings from a decorative butterfly that DH's cousin got from the renassaince fair. She had it hanging on her wall, and I looked at it and figured out how it was made. Sage was a fairy last year, but we used store-bought wings b/c i didnt know how to make them last halloween.

I'm taking Sage out with the neighbor's kids. I think she will get a kick out of it, and with all the work I've put into her costume, lol, I really want to show her off! Then we're going to papa and grandma's (FIL's) for pictures and possibly more trick-or-treating.

Tammi, glad to hear you all are ok.

Lori~You rock! congrats again!

Liz - I was just coming here to ask you if tomorrow was your u/s - mine is Wednesday and as of right now I still don't want to know the sex but dh does, or at least he thinks he does - he's not so sure now :LOL Are you feeling the babies move yet? I just started feeling "something" yesterday finally. Not very strong but definitely more than just a muscle spasm --- FINALLY!!

Tammi - I just saw the news about the floods and was wondering about you - glad to know you weren't affected.

Lori - beautiful birth story - and OMG, so fast!! I'm just in awe

Jesi fell asleep at 9:30 last night - it's just about 10:30 now and she's still sleeping! She's starting to stir though so she'll probably be up soon

lori - that's a great birth story! I just finished looking at her pictures and she's such a cutie!

liz - I'm excited to hear what gender(s) you're having!

Sherri - are you going to change your name to 4 Little Monkeys? lol

My mother informed me that she MIGHT have a really OLD costume still around from when I was 2 years old, so I might actually have a costume! But, who knows what shape it's in, so I might have to make one.

Does anyone's child still use a pacifier? Mine has become obsessed with hers and I'm sick of it! I'm really starting to worry that it will affect her teeth, so I need to wean her off of them somehow! Anyone have any ideas? I hid them all but right now she's trying to find them.

On the pottying front - she keeps bugging to sit on the big potty upstairs, and would rather sit on there than her little bijorn potty, so I finally went out and bought a seat for the toilet. She doesn't do anything on the toilet, but just wants to sit on it for about 20 minute stints.

I guess I will have to change my name now :LOL

That's great that she's asking to sit on the big potty - it's a start at least. That's what Jesi did, she started asking to sit on it, I didn't even bother getting a little potty chair for her, she wanted to be like her big sisters. One of these days she'll be sitting there and the urge will strike - praise the heck out of her and she'll start putting it all together.

As for the paci - Jesi never took one, but Mikayla and Danielle were obsessed with theirs. I took Mikayla's away on her third birthday I think it was. Danielle's was taken away just last year. We started with rules such as the paci is for at home only, then it was only for bedtime. I told her she could only use it in bed - if she wanted it she had to go to bed (got a couple of naps that way too :LOL) Eventually she used it less and less and then one night I just took it away. We had a couple of rough nights but she eventually got used to falling asleep without it. Her teeth are fine, perfectly straight. My dentist said that it is actually a myth that pacifiers ruin teeth unless the kid is using it at age 5. He said it's actually helpful when they are smaller because the sucking causes saliva to clean the teeth before they fall asleep so if they've had milk or anything, it isn't sitting on their teeth causing problems. Don't stress on it, she's not even two yet, that's old enough to start cutting down, but I don't think she's too old to have one.

Oh, and as for hiding them - when I starting restricting their use, Danielle started stashing them all over the house so when I said no or took one, she reappeared with a new one :LOL It was actually pretty comical at times. I just found one last month actually - she stuffed it in with her stuffed animals.

Ahem.......

So one of each!!!!!!!!!

And they are both BIG 12oz, and measuring only 2 days apart.

Woohoo Liz!!! Congratulations!!!! How exciting! Now you get to find some cute pink ruffly little girly things to add to your collection of boy stuff I'm so excited for you!!!

I informed dh again today that he can find out, I'm fine with that, but he can't tell anyone in either of our families because none of them can keep a secret and I don't want to find out that way. My plan is still to wait until February - but again, we'll see how I feel about it tomorrow

How exciting, Liz! :

Emily never took a paci (because of the cleft), but she is totally addicted to her bottle. I don't really have a clue how to get her away from that other than letting her self wean.

I'm starting to get anxious about knowing the sex. Everybody is asking me! It's a good thing that I'm not having an ultrasound. I know I would never be able to resist knowing! Sherri, you have more self control than I if you are actually able to have your DH know and you not! Someone just told me, though, that if your first two are the same sex, apparently the chances of having the other gender in subsequent children goes down drastically. I guess this is why in large families, if the first two kids are the same sex, the rest of the kids follow suit! I wonder why that is. I'm assuming this is if they all have the same father.

I am feeling so huge right now, it isn't even funny. And, the baby has definitely dropped. I have the feeling that I'm carrying a bowling ball between my legs whenever I walk. I can't sit up straight because my belly gets in the way of my legs!

Emily has been very cute, though, and will pull up my shirt to say hi to the baby!

Well, the kids are whining about wanting to go outside, so, I guess that's all there is for now!

Congrats, Liz! I'm glad both babies were cooperating and let you find out! I find it so funny that twins can measure 2 days apart. lol

Sherri - I actually hope that you do find out, because I'm just so curious!

That's also interesting what your dentist said about the pacifiers - I've never heard that. I've always heard that it makes the teeth stick out. I've tried the "only at home" and "only at bed" rules but I always find myself throwing one into the diaper bag everytime I leave the house. Then I feel embarrassed when she uses it in public, because I keep thinking that people are looking at her and thinking she is too old to use it.

Bec - I was able to wean K off of the bottle back in March or so. It only took about a week and was easier than I thought (especially since she wanted the bottle to go to bed at night and refused to sleep unless she had that bottle of milk). I'm sure this might not work for everyone, but what I did was - I started giving her sippy cups of milk and bottles of water. She hated water at the time and she started to realize that sippy cup = good milk and bottle = yucky water, so it took a week of her throwing the bottle of water at me but it worked. I was able to put the bottles away into storage the next week and she was on the sippy cup full time.

Congrats Liz. I'm so excited, I feel like I did when i was pg finding out.

It's a baby!! :LOL

I stuck to my guns and told them I didn't want to find out - good thing too because baby was NOT going to give out that little secret for anything! We were able to see everything else and all looks great. I got the sweetest little video of the u/s too The pics are hard to post because they are x-ray type and I don't know if I can scan them or not - I'll have dh play with it tonight. So, no one knows and we'll all find out together in Feb. Oh, we are measuring about 5 days older than my doc's due date - but I already knew the baby would be earlier than March 1

Well, I guess fate made you strong! :LOL

Lori, I just wanted to add about your birth story, that, with Emily, I felt that Pop too, just as active labor started. I thought I could hear it, it was so strong! I thought that it was my water breaking too, but I don't think it was. I really wonder what labor is going to be like with this one!
