I know if you are diagnosed with Celiacs, you get a tax write off on your special dietary food...but what about other allergies such as dairy and soy?!

I have heard here in MO if you raise goats for milk because of a dairy allergy there is a write off, but I don't know if that is true or not and don't know of any other states. So, I guess that isn't much help!

I wish there was a tax write-off, but sorry no, you can not deduct your food costs for any food intolerance other than for Celiacs disease. And even with that, you can only deduct the difference between the cost of your gluten free foods and what other comparable foods sell for. You also must attach proof to your return that you have Celiacs to claim the cost of your foods or else the IRS is going to flag it and disallow it unless you prove otherwise.
Your medical expenses have to be pretty substantial in order to get to deduct any of them anyway, so for most people that I have prepared returns for, medical expenses are not deductible at all.

Unfortunately, I doubt there will be any deductions for that until the medical profession starts to be a little more vocal about how serious food allergies are. I was so hoping someone knew of something. Crossing my fingers!!!
