June 2006 Mamas Rollcall - Page 5

i think i might want a home waterbirth.

right now, we're planning a hospital birth with our midwife. i haven't decided about a doula yet. i was disappointed by our doula last go 'round.

Once I figure out where we will be living/birthing that will make it alot easier.

A home/water birth is my ideal situation. I am concerned about a mw allowing a homebirth as I am 38 and have a rare blood disorder. This disorder has never caused me any problems, and it's known to not really be an issue, just that there is a chance of hemorrhaging.

we're planning on using our local Alternative Birthing Center, located inside a local hospital. It's low intervention, and I believe no meds - I think they would move you to regular labor & delivery if you want meds. They have jacuzzi tubs and real beds, etc. I intend to use a doula, but haven't started interviewing yet. Oh, and i'm using an OB.

Planning to deliver at a freestanding Birth Center with a midwife, but waiting to hear back from her if I can (mw is consulting with their affiliated OB because of my history of thyroid problems. It's not bothering me at all now, so I hope they'll decide I'm OK to stay there!)

I'm planning a med-free hospital birth like my last. I love our hospital (though I just found out my ob's office also contracts out to another local hospital which I don't care for); the l&d nurses rock! So, when I go on the 8th, I need to confirm with my OB that I will be able to birth at the one I want to birth at - if not, we may have to do some OB shopping (something I really don't want to do ... I really love my OB). I also am planning on having a doula this time around.

I'm Brenda, this is my first pregnancy, and I'm planning on an unmedicated birth with a midwife, in a local hospital. DH is pretty freaked at the idea of non-intervention during childbirth. He keeps asking, "But, honey, why? It doesn't have to hurt!" I'm wondering if I won't have to throw him out of the room at one point.

We've decided that the hospital with a midwife is the best compromise for us.
If there were any birthing centers closer than 1.5 hours on the NJ Turnpike, we might have gone that way, but a homebirth is not in the cards.

EDD is 6/21/04

husbands can be so funny! Of course it doesn't HAVE to hurt... but if you're numbed you miss out on all the other wonderful sensations aside from the pain. While I was in active labor, in the midst of the worst of the pain, I remember thinking (and saying outloud) "this just feels so... neat!" It's awesome, don't fear! The pain is over before you know it, the baby sticks around. And the funny thing is, I hardley remember the pain, but I haven't forgoten how cool the other feelings were.

Hello to all.......
It really seems hard to believe that I am able to join an official "due date club." For so long I dreamed of being able to leave the ttc thread. Glad to be here. Please add me to the list. My EDD is 6/26/06

I totally agree. The pain was intense, but for some reason felt so necessary as part of the whole experience. And yep, somehow magically, that pain all disappears when you are holding that amazing baby in your arms.

I'm new too. By my calculations, I'm due 6/27. !
But I'm nervous! This is my first pregnancy, and the OB (who I haven't even met yet... ugh) won't see me until 8.5 wks! Some days I feel really bad (fatigue, nausea, etc.) but other days I don't feel as pregnant and I think, what if something is wrong? I have to wait until 11/22 to find out??

Married to DH 3 yrs, Expecting #1 6/27/06!

It'll be alright. The average first doctor's appt seems to be about 12 weeks. It seems like a really long time, I know. I've been feeling the same way. Some days I'm so sick I can barely move or talk, and some days I'm cooking dinner and cleaning the house! I don't remember being so sick, or so wishy-washy with my first (this is my second).
Pretty much the worst thing that could happen between now and your first appt is miscarriage... and I know that sounds bad, but if it should happen remember it's your body's miraculous way of discarding a body that would have been too dysfunctional for this little spirit to live in. If you start bleeding (and many of us do during our first trimesters, myself included) then your OB will see you right away. Don't worry yourself too much, though I know it is VERY hard not to!

Welcome to MDC and congratulations on your first! It's so hard in the beginning because there's nothing that really tells you you're pregnant (not like once you can start feeling movement so you KNOW the baby is in there!). It might be easier said than done, but enjoy the good days when you have them, and rest and relax on the bad days. If you feel something might be wrong, call your ob and at least talk with him/her on the phone. Even a chat with the nurse can help calm any fears, and make you feel better.

Not all miscarriages are caused by a 'dysfunctional' fetus. Some are caused by problems (that are often fix-able) in the mothers body, such as low progesterone. Its hard to see it as a miraculous event when you're losing your baby.

8 Weeks yesterday, today was a good day, after several days of feeling crappy, it was nice to feel good most of the day, and not throw up!
