DD and I went shoe shopping and she fell in love with a pair of star blinking tennis shoes, but they didn't have her size. She started to cry, which quickly escalated into a complete meltdown. Of course I had other shoes we had to buy so...everyone of course is staring, as people do when a child is having a fit. So I calmly knelt beside her and hugged her and said "I can see how disappointed you are." and within 30 seconds she stopped crying and said "I AM disappointed. Why don't they have my size?" and I promised her that we could check back another day or on the internet. And she was OK with that.
So this woman comes over and says "I really admire the way you handled that, and how in tune you are with your little girls feelings. I was nice to see. Most moms start yelling and threatening their kids which makes it worse. She's lucky to have you."
It felt good -- because it is hard sometimes to be at your child's level when tantrums are downright embarrassing. LOL.
