re-using no#1 containers( from trader joes)

I posted about storing bulk foods, seems like glass jars are the go, but I just wanted to check that re-using no#1 plastics are a big NO NO. Traders joes containers are so nice looking and stackable and light so I could take them straight to the store, no using plastic bags, and would be perfect for small stuff but is it safe?
I have really started trying to be aware of the plastics I use but am not by any means close to knowing what I'm doing

I can't throw anything away without trying to find a use for it first. I've also heard that #1 plastics shouldn't be reused. I think you're just supposed to stay away from keeping food in them but they're still useable containers!

I use them for organizing things like:
sewing stuff (buttons, thread, ribbon, safety pins)
camping stuff (small odds and ends)
hardware (screws especially)
barettes
rubber bands
foreign currency (I live in Canada but visit the US frequently)

There are so many options when you think about it. Anything small that gets mixed up with other things, junk drawer fodder, etc.
