OK some new stuff that I must ask the vet CD mamas before I invest!

1. Bac-Out - is it necessary?

2. Doublers - any recs?

3. Wetbags - I know Leigh Ann has reccomended the Bummis, does anyone else have any faves? The bummis look REALLY great, just wondering about other brands.

4. Along those lines, mini wetbags?

5. Tide Free& Clear - anyone use this on their dipes? IT is priced pretty good at Costco and thought it may do the trick.

6. Last but not least - THANKS!

I second Sarah's questions about Bac-Out and Wet Bags and also would like to know what do you use for diaper pail?

1. Not imo - I actually found with both ds's that I can't use anything with enzymes, no matter how natural. So, I use ALL (regular, not free & clear). Hot wash with ALL; cold rinse. Hot wash with nothing; cold rinse with Method fabric softener. Dry on Hot. That's all.

2. I don't have rec's for doublers because I tend to make my own, but I find I like 2-3 layer hemp or organic cotton (fleece or french terry; not jersey) ones the best. They are fine by themselves, and if we are going to be out for a while (I try to avoid public restrooms for changes if at all possible), they are thin enough to use two. I don't have a preference between rectangular or contour shaped and tend to make rectangular because they are much faster.

3. The Bummis ones are great! I also have two pail liners by Mom About Town, like these although the official Mom About Town website says they are going out of business, so they might be in short supply. If I were to do it again and couldn't find/get the MAT ones, I'd order the Bummis in a heartbeat (I have one of them but not in the pail liner size).

4. Mini-wet bags - YEP! At least I prefer putting dirties in something washable and reusable when out and about. I have used plastic bags or ziplocs in a pinch, but don't feel like washing them by hand or anything. Mini wet bags go in the wash with everything else, just like a pail liner. Here's all the sizes. I'd recommend two or three, especially if you are the type that likes to get out and about ... I only use them once before putting them in the laundry, so I typically use two a week. Happy Tushies are really nicely made wetbags too! I use one of hers and one I bought from the diaper service as mine, and will probably splurge and buy one more before baby is born.

5. Tide Free & Clear - nope, don't use it, but again, it has enzymes and I can't use those detergents. I personally don't see a need for "Free and Clear" unless your child is definitely sensitive to detergents/dyes/scents. Chances are you'll end up experimenting with detergents as you go, so I'd suggest you start with whatever you use for regular laundry and see how it goes. The diapering board has tons of old threads on wash routine and detergents if you search those words.

6. You're welcome - ask away!!!

1. Bac-Out - is it necessary? never used it

2. Doublers - any recs? Little Lambs on ebay: http://tinyurl.com/8ydkh

3. Wetbags - I know Leigh Ann has reccomended the Bummis, does anyone else have any faves? The bummis look REALLY great, just wondering about other brands. Actually I used nylon bags from Big Lots to line my diaper pail, they worked okay, just from the experience of others diaper pails, I want the XL bummis

4. Along those lines, mini wetbags? I like the mini bummis bags - I had a zippered wahm one too and that was nice.

5. Tide Free& Clear - anyone use this on their dipes? IT is priced pretty good at Costco and thought it may do the trick. Never tried it, usually just use whatever detergent we have, but with tea tree oil added and sometimes baking soda or another EO for a nice scent and LOVE this stuff: https://www.naturalfamilyboutique.co...s/NFB6000.aspx

My diaper pail is an ordinary tall kitchen trash can with a step-activated lid, and I just use tall kitchen trash bags as a liner, and I've never had an odor problem. However, it is a dry pail. I don't do the wet-pail thing - yuck!

This is not a wipe "solution" but I really like the Aloe Vera Baby Oil Spray Mist made by Johnson & Johnson's. It's really good to spray the bum with after you've wiped because it keeps the next poo from sticking to their behind and it prevents rash.

I have read on diapering sites that you shouldn't use fabric softeners because they contain a waxy substance that repels water and therefore reduces the absorbency of the diaper, so I have never used a fabric softener.

Also, I do a cold soak first, then a cold wash, before the hot wash, instead of two hot washes.

I've never used any fancy detergent. Just whatever is cheapest. Never had any stains.

I used to use a wipe solution (I'd use water, a little Johnson's&Johnson's or Dr. Bronners, and maybe a little lavendar), but then I got really lazy and just starting running the washcloths under warm water at the sink before changing a diaper. IMO, much easier, and I don't have to keep on top of having something together.

I've never used a wipe solution either. I keep a peri bottle on my table filled with water to dampen my washcloths and wipe their bums and then I give 'em a shot of the aloe spray.

It depends on the fabric softener - you don't want to use regular Downey or that one with the teddy bear on it. But, Method, 7th Generation, and Ecover all rinse cleanly and don't seem to leave any residue. I use it on AIO's, pockets, fitteds, and cpfs without issue. Downey Advanced used to be awesome too, but they stopped making it.

It's those dryer sheets that are bad news.

I've used a regular nylon bag for the diaper pail (a regular step lid trash can) - both bought at Target or some other box store. But I'm going with the XL bummis tote this time around for my liner - it really helps keep the stink in and can be washed right with the diapers. I don't like plastic bags for the diaper pail liner - a) I'm using cloth for a reason!! and b) I think plastic contributes to stink (ever have a diaper genie - yuck!! at first it might be just fine, but after awhile, the smell imbeds in the plastic...PU!
