39 week appt

So I had my 39 week appt yesterday at 9 am. Everything looks good. I am measuring 40 cm and she said baby looks incredibly big. She is estimating that the baby weighs around 8.5 lbs right now. The heartrate was 130 and she was a little concerned that it had dropped so much in one week (It was in the 150's last week), so she sent us to the hospital for a NST. Everything went great though, seems the baby was just sleeping or something because at the hospital her heartrate was fine and she was all over the place the entire time. The midwife said that she doesn't want me going over 41 weeks so we will induce if that happens. I think she will be here within the next week so I'm not too worried about that.

I also had my consultation for a tubal. The doc said that they can do it the day the baby is born which scares me hehe. I thought it wouldn't be done until 6 weeks postpartum. The main thing that worries me is being away from the baby while they do the surgery and I wake up from the anesthesia. I told DH to keep the baby with him while I go and hopefully if I nurse her before I go she will be ok until I get back.

That's about it, it's just a waiting game now.

Sounds like a good appointment.

Just curious as to why you don't want to go over 41wks?

Why do they have to put you to sleep for the tubal? Can't they give you an epidural?

I guess the midwife is concerned that she is going to be a ginormous baby and she doesn't want me to go too far overdue. My last baby was 2 days late and weighed 8lbs 8 oz and she already guesstimates that this one weighs that and I still have a week to go. I really doubt I will go a week over, and once my due date hits I will try all the natural induction stuff myself before I let the midwife try.

The doc asked me if I was planning an epidural but I am going all natural and would actually prefer to be knocked out since I have had a bad experience with an epidural in the past. I just worry that the baby will get hungry before I am fully awake and able to nurse her. I just don't want the nurses to give her a bottle. I told DH to keep the baby with him while I am gone. Hopefully they will let me recover in my L&D room instead of the recovery room.

Oh..I would bet you are good to deliver a bigger baby...my first was 8lbs and my last was 9lbs2...and this one could very well be bigger...my midwife wasn't concerned. I always figure fat is squishy so it's not going to make that much difference.

I agree though..you probably won't go over by much! Hope baby comes soon!

Is it not possible to have the tubal done later...I would hate to be knocked out on my baby's birthday I think I would want it done well after bfing is established since the anaesthetic can make baby sleepy.

I hope it all works out for you

Take care

Oh... I assumed they could give you an epidural after the baby is born, when they do the tubal. It seems so much more dangerous to make you unconscious... But, if you feel informed and this is the best option, then I wish you the best!

Good for you for trusting that your body will go into labor before the induction is necessary.
