Making diaper covers

Thread Starter
I just got my sewing machine, and I'm ready to start making some diaper covers. I am using one of my Bottom Buddies diaper covers, velcro wraps with a layer of Ultrex, to make a pattern. Is there anyone experienced in making diaper covers who can give some advice? I was thinking about replacing the velcro with some sort of buckle to make them more toddler resistant. Does anyone know how I might do this?

And if anyone knows where I can get other good diaper cover patterns, please let me know. Thanks!

well i'm no expert but. . .

I've made a bunch of diaper covers. I don't have a pattern I just trace one of my favorite super whisper wraps then add an inch all around for the seam.

I use velcro, but I like your idea of a buckle of some sort b/c my little guy can rip that velcro off faster than I can get it on. I don't know what you'd use though - I'll give it some thought and post if I anything comes to me.

I got a pattern I like at www.poopockets.com
She also sells PUL and other fabric. The trick is finding good binding material that won't wick moisture....I got some stabilized nylon tricot at Hancock's that seems to work.

Some other great resources are www.sewyourowndiapers.com
plus the yahoo group

The women there are very helpful--lots of WAHM's plus mom's sewing for their own children. It can hook you up with a lot of good fabric co-ops, too.
