Getting up in the morning

My daughter does not want to get out of bed in the morning. She wants me to get back into bed with her. She wants me to dress her. I didn't mind this until recently when it just feels like she could do it herself so when the heck is she going to start? She just seems so irrational in the morning. Other challenges we navigate, but this one, well, it's as if she can't think clearly and wants me to do everything for her until she's fully awake.

Will this just end? Is there something I should do to encourage her to get up or - dare I wish it - sleep in a bit longer. I certainly wish she'd just sleep more until she's better able to cope. Either that or I'm going to start giving her coffee.

could she be eating too much sugar? It makes me extremely tired, after the initial hyperness wears off. Other foods also make me feel fatigued, but sugar is the main one. could it be a dietary problem? Have you tried eliminating sugar and red dye (the two most likely to be causing such a problem)?

I'd just let her sleep a bit longer, but I'm not much of a stickler for schedules personally.

No, she doesn't eat much sugar, not even once a week, and none before the age of 3. We shop almost exclusively at a natural foods co-op.

I want her to sleep more, but she won't stay in bed without me.

I take it that this is unusual behavior.

My ds is the same way. He turned 4 in August. He does not sleep alone, not even for naps. He also needs extra mothering in the morning. I dress him and feed him because that is what he needs. I am not worried because he has been consistently (though painfully slowly) improving with age. I figure a tired kid is like one two years younger than actual age. My ds has always been slow to wake up. I used to have to hold him and walk from room to room for an hour everytime he woke up.
