I have come to accept the sweetness in it when ds launches into this mode. After the first week of kindergarten, he came home lighthearted and informed me, "I learned some good news, Mom. Did you know that going to college is actually a CHOICE?" He somehow learned about going away to college at a really young age and has worried about it ever since. Now, he believes he just won't go...

We have a friend whose son says things along these lines - when he's playing with his little people or playmobil, he'll say, "OK, you - you're going to COLLEGE!" and puts them in a van to be conscripted into the academic life...

We also have death "issues" in our house - but ours have lasted from about ages 3-5. Halloween has become a very big, purgative deal this year - in a good way.
