Gp told me today Paxil isn't safe?!!

OK, I am really confused now. My inpatient consult at the hospital with a psych told me I could choose between zoloft and paxil. The zoloft is making me really anxious, so I want to switch to Paxil. Is this safe or not??
I looked at Hale and it said it was OK??? Has there been a recent change since his book or something?

Are you pregnant or nursing? Its different for each thing. Plus, the info on Paxil just came out in the last week or two. Does Dr Hale have a website with current info?

My practitioner doesn't prescribe Paxil during pregnancy; I don't know about nursing. If Zoloft isn't working, could you try Lexapro or Celexa before trying Paxil? They have an anti-anxiety effect for most people. I know people say that Paxil is harder to get off of, etc., so you might try one of the other choices before Paxil.

I took Lexapro while nursing, but my practitioner feels that Celexa is a more conservative choice during pregnancy (b/c that's the drug they did all the testing on a few years back). Lexapro is supposed to be just the "active" part derived from Celexa. Lexapro worked well for me; I just started the Celexa recently so it hasn't kicked fully in yet. I'm hopeful that the effect will be the same as Lexapro.

New info on Paxil

OK, so I found this, but it is related to pregnancy, not nursing.

Anybody heard anything about nursing and Paxil in the last few months, or since Dr. hale's book came ou in the Spring of 2004?

I'm not sure on the new info... but i just started paxil again... i have sessional depression... i was taking it in the fall of 03 till i got pregnant in Dec. stoped then started taking in again about 6 weeks before i delievered in aug 04, to hopefully keep me from getting worse PPD, took it till about Dec 04, stoped again. So i took it while TTC, while pregnant and while nursing from birth til 4months then now i'm taking it again while nursing my toddler... interested in more info. but my dd is always been fine no w/draw symptems at birth, like some talk about, nothing while nursing, ect. Just helps her get a happy mommy!
