You use baking soda instead of shampoo, then apple cider vinegar (ACV) instead of conditioner. It sounds like it works much better for some people than others. I think most people experiment a lot before they find what works best for them.

I found that using baking soda really cut the oiliness of my hair, and it would need washing far less quickly than usual. It was great, since I figured this out right before my son was born- those early weeks when it's so hard to shower were made much less unpleasant, grease-wise. My hair could feel clean for four days, instead of one to one and a half. But then I seemed to get sensitive, and my skin didn't like the feel of the baking soda. It felt like it chafed. So after taking a break from it altogether, I scaled back to just working some BS into my scalp, and following with shampoo. (and conditioner) I used to shampoo 2-3 times per shower to get my hair clean, so I'm still saving on shampoo, but enjoying the ease and scent of it.

There are a lot of threads on going "no-poo" in the Natural Home and Body Care section:http://www.mothering.com/discussions...?s=&forumid=11

Got a timer for the outside lights, thinking it would save me money and be convenient. It caught on fire. The timer came with 18 gauge wire and connected to 14 gauge house wire; it was there for over 3 years; and the original wiring to the house, though up to code, was funky. Now I have to have the electricians rewire 3 whole circuits in our house. Don't want to put it on the homeowner's insurance b/c I know they will get "their" money back (don't ask me how I know).

Oh and before I did the checkbook and knew how broke we were we went to a grocery store and spent 62.00 ona meal because it was healthy and all natural. Man it's expensive to eat healthy.

I'll have to think about the things I've tried that flopped... I have plenty!

Question though... anyone know of a *real* site to check for unclaimed money? Preferably one where I don't have to buy a membership too?
