I haven't been back on very much but wanted to let you all know that my baby finally came into the world via scheduled c-section on Friday, October 14th at 42 weeks and 5 days gestation. His name is Jonathan and he was 9 lbs, 6 oz and 20 1/2 inches long. We decided to schedule the c-section on Tuesday when we learned that the baby was transverse, and decided with the VBAC, post-dates, and badly positioned baby we wanted this to be on our terms, and it was.
Here's my birth story...
I woke up at 5:30 a.m. on Friday, realized that I had not gone into labor *again* and that we were going to do this, and I was at peace and excited. I painted my toenails, took a shower, took some pictures with dh and dd and a 42w5d belly shot (!!) and off we went. When we got to the hospital the prep nurses were great, and the doc wanted to move the surgery up to 7:30 from 8:30...didn't work quite that way but they were fast about everything. I got into the OR about 7:45, and was very aware of everything (no drugs in my IV). When they started doing stuff I felt kind of nauseous and they took care of it right away, and I still felt alert. I actually felt the baby's head come out after not too long (not painfully though), then his big shoulders, and then he cried right away and the doc lifted him over the screen so I could see him. He was born at 8:05 a.m., quick! Dh went with them to the warmer and Jonathan cried the whole time, and then they brought him to me and I held him for a while right away in the OR, which was amazing. We were all crying and it was just so wonderful to finally see him. He didn't look like dd at all, and still doesn't! He looked teeny to me (dd was a pound bigger) but everybody kept saying how big he is.
DH went with him to the nursery and I got to nurse him in recovery by about 9:30, not too bad. I didn't have the shakes and felt awesome right afterwards. The doc came by to say that he knew it wasn't the birth we planned on but that everything went wonderfully and my recovery should be quicker (true already).
I am totally in love with this hospital. Formula was not mentioned even one time, and the nurses left us alone most of the time. We didn't circ and I am so glad, and no one hassled us about that either. I switched to tylenol on day 2 and I am sore, but getting around okay. It was definitely not a picnic and won't be, but definitely better than with dd!
Little guy is nursing really well now, my milk came screaming in a few days ago. He was tongue tied but our awesome ped clipped it and he seems much more satisfied now, and hopefully has started gaining more poundage.
Thanks for all your support in the last weeks, and hang in there all of you who are still waiting, I know it's so hard.
