Oh, the irony!

Just had to share this story with my MDC mamas...

Some of you may know that my son recently underwent a stem cell transplant for Krabbe Disease at Duke Medical Center in North Carolina. We're back in California now and getting ready to fly back to Duke for Jackson's 1 year post-transplant studies. Since Jackson's immune system is still very compromised, we try to get our flights through a charity called Corporate Angel Network, which matches people travelling for medical care with corporate jet flights to the same area. It's a fabulous charity, and they've taken very good care of us.

I got a call yesterday from them that they had a flight to Duke for us. This is so great - travelling on a commercial airplane is a huge risk for Jackson because of the germs, and even walking in the airport terminal is exposing him to things that could kill him. I was thrilled that we won't have to worry about that. Then they told me which corporation would be flying us...

I can't say the name, but the corporation's name has 6 letters, begins with N and ends with É, and is probably the most hated of all large corporations by the mamas here (especially here on the BF board). Do you all know who I'm talking about? I nearly choked when the lady told me.

I am trying to console myself that I am taking from them and not helping them, with the possible exception of a tax write-off for the flight. Geez, what a ethical dilemma! Except there really wasn't much dilemma at all, my son's health comes first and foremost.

Funny how life makes you look at things differently sometimes, isn't it? :LOL

Wow! I can just imagine what must have gone through your mind when you first heard. Well, at least they can be used for some good.

Best wishes,

As much as we all hate that corp, there is NOTHING wrong with taking that flight, IMO. I hope all goes well for your son!

Do you think they'll give you free chocolate?

And if they do... do I eat it??

Enjoy the chocolate!!! You're not giving them money after all. Think of it as a small price they are paying for all the harm they have caused.

: take the flight with some humor! And if you do get chocolate - enjoy :LOL

From what I understand, infant formula isn't included in the Nestle boycott. The reason? Some babies actually have a medical need for the product. I'd say the medical flight falls under the same category!

If they DO give you chocolate....say "no thank you" and whip out a delicious bar of organic fair trade chocolate instead, like Green & Black's... Nestle chocolate sucks, and it's not fair trade either, so probably has child labor issues!

:LOL

ETA: I read Jackson's website fairly frequently - he is such a handsome little guy! I hope the trip to Duke produces great results.

Can you leave some breastfeeding literature on the plane?
