Good to go here...

I had a bout with kidney stones this weekend... ouch! Spend the night in the hospital because we thought it might be a kidney infection. Passed the stone and got to come home. They gave me some Demerol because the pain made my bp go up to 140/101 and it doped me up for over 12 hours- just one dose!!

So far, baby is still breech but he has plenty of time to turn. If not, well breech babies can still be born- ya know! inky

I've gained six lbs now... so that's enough to satisfy everyone I think! <sigh>

My birth pool is on the way and I can't wait to conitnue getting ready. I'll be ordering my birth kit in a few weeks.

Lisa- let us know how your GD test goes.

i still need to do the glucose test (altho i tested myself with my mom's little blood glucose tester and it was WAY low.) and also get backup for our homebirth (hmmmm.....i wonder why i'm resisting this??!! )

i met with our doulas this week and am so excited and looking forward to the birth. i also put down a deposit on our birthing tub. and i'm having my last hypnobirthing private session next week. trying to stay relaxed and positive.

lisa, just wondering...how come you declined the glucose test at first? i am a pretty low tech pg mama, and the glucose is one i always thought was really important.

busybusy, kidney stones OUCH!!!! just what a pg mama needs, eh? glad you're feeling better. also, did you know that accupuncture and homeopathy can help turn a breech. so never fear, there are lots of natural methods, in case you need them.

we are getting closer, ladies...this is so exciting!!! it'll be so much fun in april when we can all post our birth announcements.

With my first pregnancy, I did fail the glucose test. My midwives thought it was because of my size (I'm very petite), but they didn't want me doing the 3 hr. test because I almost passed out w/the first one. So I had to check my blood sugars for 2 wks. I was fine. Also, when they check my urine at each visit, they are checking your blood sugars. I also hadn't had any excessive weight gain during either pregnancy and my first ds was SGA. Explaining all of this to my current midwives, they were fine w/me choosing not to do it. But with the current situation (even though I don't have any other signs of GD), the perinatologist thought I should do it. My doula (I was also her doula 3 1/2 years ago) had GD, so I've done alot of talking to her about it. She is also completing her OB rounds right now (she is in school to become a ARNP).

Pretty long explanation huh???

We are still awaiting the results............

I hope everything turns out well for you,Lisa.I just had to say,I wonder why your midwife did not have you undergo the same GTT as me.My midwife had me eat a breakfast consisting of 2 eggs,2 slices of toast,8 oz's of milk,4 oz's of O.J.,and a tablespoon of margarine.Then I had to have my blood drawn exactly one hour after I ate that meal.That sugary drink used in mainstream GTT's is SO unhealthy.

It made my head spin when I did the test with dd.

This time I turned it down. I'm having a homebirth and saw the backup OB once at 24 weeks and will again at 35-37 weeks. He gave me the CHOICE of doing both the GD test and the group b strep (which I will probably refuse).

I'm being tricky... I think I'll schedule the appt for 37 weeks or the Monday after and maybe I'll have the babe at 37 weeks and won't have to go. : I hate Dr. offices and all the paperwork!

and yea, doulas are the best. i wouldn't give birth without one.

one thing i love about these boards is hearing the thoughts behind other women's choices on things such as prenatal testing. i "failed" the one hour GD test last time and had to do the 3 hour, which was pure hell. my MW says that if you have GD you don't necessarily have sugar in the urine, that sometimes it doesn't show up there. i'll see how my one hour turns out, then maybe i'll opt out of the 3 hour. i don't think i could handle that again (and this time with my very actiuve 27 month old running about as i am starving and getting pricked every hour).

argh, lisa...that SUCKS. i hope the 3 hour comes out negative, and i also wish for you what i had at the my 3 hour with my last pregnancy, a very nice person in the waiting area with you who is also taking the 3 hour test. that way you have somebody nice to chat with while you both wait. (that's about the only thing that made it all bearable for me)

Your so thoughtful to ask. I was SO wiped out yesterday. I don't get the results until Monday or Wednesday though. Hate the waiting game!

I failed my one hour too! i know it doesnt mean anything except that i have to take th 3 hour test to really see if i have a problem but i dont want to. i am really small and havent gained a huge amount of weight. there is no reason i would have GD. I know you can refuse anything its your body but i could see getting a lot of pressure to do it and i dont know if they would just let me refuse it like that.

I have read about how to eat particular things for a few days before the 3 hour test. carbs, grains ect...... Have you heard this?

That is one of my least favorite tests. Last time I forgot to bring food with me for afterward, it was horrible.

Right now I am debating whether to do the rhogam shot or not. Last time I just forgot to do it, and there was a huge fuss in the hospital. This time I can't claim ignorance, I know it's there, and I definitely want more children after this, and what if the birth doesn't go as smoothly as I pray it will? So it keeps going around my mind, and the clock keeps ticking away. Oh, man, this whole vaccine thing has really got me.

bunny - There was a discussion about the Rhogam vax on the homebirth board and the vaccine boards I think. Have you read them? There's some neat info there!

Anyone - will you all be doing the Group B Strep test? I think I'm going to refuse it and just make sure I rinse with a GSE (grapefruit seed extract) wash daily closer to my EDD. Seems to be pointless to test for it, because it can be there one week and not the next and vice versa. Just because you get a negative one week doesn't mean you won't have it when you deliver. ??? :

Michelle- didn't take the GD test and about to swear off every test under the sun! Rebellion!
