which tv shows do your children watch?

just curious...

Ideally, I would raise tv free children, but I haven't been able to do that yet. And then there are shows that I like and don't mind them watching, such as:

Baby Einstein (yes, I know it is owned by Disney...)
Magic School Bus
Sesame Street
Winnie the Pooh

My kids are 2 and 4, and while I agree tv free is best, I'm trying to find peace with a little bit of shows I like...

My 4 yo DS watches 1 hr of TV in the morning while I shower. Occasionally, I let him watch a 30 minute video in the afternoon, especially if he didn't watch TV that morning. (like if he showered with me, or he played while I showered, etc.)

While I shower, I put the TV on Noggin. They change their schedule occasionally, so the shows he watches during that hour vary from Maisy, Miffy, Franklin, Connie the Cow, and some others I can't think of at the moment.

For an afternoon video, (on the off chance it happens) I let him choose. Lately, he's been choosing either Thomas or Schoolhouse Rock.

There's always a couple of days each week when he doesn't watch any TV at all.

Mrs. Spider. She’s such a sweet, gentle mama!

When mine were the ages of yours the shows that come to mind are: Clifford The Big Red Dog, Sesame Street, Blue Clues, Thomas the Tank Engine, and Brum.

We were TV free until dd was about 2.5-3... Since then I realized that *I* like TV so we have let her watch some too.

She can watch kids CBC in the AM for 30 minutes (more if I am really lazy
It has Dragon Tales, Arthur, Poko, Doodlebops, Mr Dress-up and the Save-ums. We also get DVDs from the library I am pretty anti-disney so The Wiggles, musicals or classics are our typical choices...

My 6 year old loves the "Magic School Bus and a series from England I believe called "Sailor Moon". Sailor moon is not educational but my daugher loves super hero stuff and this is about super heros but they are girls so I let her watch it.

OMG! Sailor Moon is Anime, not from England! The version she's watching is probably the one I was obsessed with as a 12 year-old and it's Canadian! I LOVED that show, and it got me totally hooked to Japanese Animation. Since then I have moved on to more mature Anime, and believe me, it's out there. DD however loves this show as well, since I have almost all the episodes on video or DVD. What channel/time is it on where you are?

She also loves Noggin and a new show called Harry(I think) and his bucket of Dinosaurs, because she absolutely loves her bucket of dinosaurs right now. :LOL

We do up to one hour of tv a day. Usually we don't have the time for even that though!
My 2 year old doesn't like tv at all.
4 year old loves Miss Spider, Caillou and Go Diego Go.

DD #1 is 9yrs old and doesn't watch much since she is at school during the day but on weekends she will watch a DVD or something on Nickelodeon every now and then (tonight she watched Drake and Josh -- hey at least it wasn't Spongebob ). DD #2 is 4 and she watches mostly PBS -- she loves Clifford, Arthur and if she catches Dora the Explorer she is thrilled. I love Sesame Street so occasionally we watch that but it is only on once a day so we often miss it. We used to really only watch videos but our VCRs are both broken : We try to limit our viewing to an hour or less per day but hey...no one is perfect

DD1 loves Zaboomafu (I'm sure I misspelled that!) and just about anything on animal planet except the animal cops shows that I don't let her watch.

DD2 loves Thomas and Friends, and Sesame Street

For little ones, home movies and Mr Rogers.

We can watch Sesame Street, Clifford, and anything on Noggin. She also loved the Wiggles for a couple of years, but seems to have grown out of them. I was actually a really big Wiggles fan, and kind of miss them. :LOL

Kipper the Dog, I friend of mine got it from the library, it is produced by the same company that makes Thomas and Bob the Builder (2 other favs here). It has a look similar to Caillou.

Frankly, I really hate heavy-handed moralistic TV so that excludes Dragon Tales, Clifford, Barney or Franklin and it needs to be something I can watch without wanting to bang my head against a wall so no Maisy or Dora (Maisy is just SO BORING, even bores him, and I feel like Dora is always shouting). I do love Oobi, I think the voice acting is really good and I love the way they include Ooma (the little sister) in their play so graciously.

We recently turned off our cable and don't get our local PBS so we are restricted to DVD/video and saturday mornings. At least CBS has Nick Jr on Saturdays now, even last year everything on Sat was horribly violent.

slightly
but I always think the Wiggles were designed with hetero mummies in mind (all those males dancing about in tight pants ) :LOL

Anyway, my ds1 -5 years old this week! - likes Noddy (on PBS - it's British), Dragon Tales, Thomas, Cyberchase (I really like this show too), Zoom, Clifford, and just about anything else on PBS. We watch WAY too much tv so we turned off the cable but the bunny ears pick up PBS, so we end up watching that a lot. (We pay the cable company for internet). Also he likes Dora and Bob the Builder.
ds2 - 1, nearly 2 - is really only interested in Teletubbies, Sesame Street and anything with puppies. He is obsessed with puppies.

That's so cute. I gave my DD my figurines too; she does the same I also gave her my Luna cat that meows and wags her tail. I have a SM"locket", Crescent Moon Wand and Halloween costume. And tons of posters of course.

Sailor Moon has been around for awhile; at high school people used to refer to me as the "Anime Girl" because back then it wasn't that well known. Now it is in everything - Commercials, ads, popular cartoons and esp video games. I was one of the first people at my school to like it, then when all the guys at my high school realized that it was in the video games that they played they paid me a lot of attention because I would dress like Sailor Moon characters :LOL It was a riot. The American (english) Version is good for girls of all ages. But in Japan the show is more PG-13 because they are a little more comfortable with the body and when the Sailors "transform" there is more nudity involved. When I learned that I got really interested in the Japanese (original) Versions of Anime..... cute show though, the other one I liked a lot when I was young was Dragon Ball Z. It was geared toward boys, but still very cute show.
