Sad mommy moment

my dd1 is almost 5. For her 1st bday she got a wide bowl. It looks like a plate with a rim around it, has animals, and has been a favorite for many meals. Yesterday I gave it to her with waffles in it and she said, "Mommy, this is a baby bowl. I'm not a baby anymore. I want a big plate."

Then I asked her what kind of big plate she wanted and she said, "The one with Blues Clues on it." :LOL So I guess she's not *that* big yet. Still, that baby dish has so many memories associated with it, it's sad that she doesn't want to use it anymore.

My son did the same thing all through his childhood, telling me he when he was ready for the next step (often before I was). Since he was my first, I look back and see how he was accomplishing the awesome job of raising a mother. If it's any consolation, he also was able to miss (and ask for) those symbols of his earlier life later on, when he'd proven that he was "bigger." So hold on to that plate!

Happysad happysad always happysad

raising a child and watching them grow is wonderful, but also bittersweet. Ya know?

My ds is 4, and has just started telling me not to call him babe or cutie. "That's not my name. My name is T---." They are growing up.

Our DD turned 5 on September 7th. She refuses anything associated with babies or toddlers. I knitted her a sweater out a yarn called Tiny Tots and when she saw the label I had to fib and say that Tots was what they called the design in the yarn- otherwise she wouldn’t wear the sweater. She also didn’t want any of the “California Baby” body products because she isn’t a baby- luckily it says on there “for sensitive adults” because I bought a giant bottle of the shampoo that would have taken us forever to use on DS- who literally requires one drop per bath.
