We are about ready to- dear god. They have canceled school 5 times already this year in Alpena due to weather- have these morons never seen snow? When they cancel school that means that our swim team is also canceled and Scott is going to have a major heart attach here soon. They have not had a full week of practice since they started the season!

No worries on making me fatty- I am SOOOOOO there!

Recommendations for Chinese (or other Asian) restaurants in Marquette that are vegetarian friendly (preferably TOFU not just veggies)? We're spending the night in Marquette Wednesday on our way downstate and I'm craving Chinese food. So far the closest I've come to real Chinese in the UP was in Houghton

Hands down, the Thai House on Third Street, across from Valle's Market (which used to be Jack's IGA). I think it's the corner of Third and Magnetic...or it's close to there.

They have a great Pad Thai and several yummy currys. Yum.:
This is my favorite place.

The Great Hunan, set back off US41 after the Westwood Mall, is pretty good, too...and it's Chinese.

There is also a Chinese Restaurant in Munising that is good. They have good Pad Thai, too. It's located on the corner of Superior (one block down--away from the lake-- from M-28) and Maple.

I second Thai House!! It's soo so good, and most everything on their menu can be made vegetarian(with tofu too!). I've had many things on the menu but Pad Asparagus will always be my very fave. Pra Ram is also super good, if you like peanut sauce.

The Chinese restaurants I've experienced in town are not so good. Not many veggie options and I don't think I remember tofu at any of them.

Man, I wish I had the money to go eat Thai House right this minute!!

I love Thai food! I had no idea Marquette had a Thai restaurant. Anyone tried the Thai place in Green Bay?

No, but I think I'm going down there tomorrow to go shopping at Woodman's. Where is this Thai place? :

Whoa, I totally meant to say Menonome. not Green Bay. Sorry to lead you astray
No, we spend all our money and time on the Japanese restaurant downtown Green Bay. We lived in Japan for three years and miss it dreadfully.

RedHot MADE me go down the big hill, and sure enough we both landed on our duppas. Quite hilarious, very beautiful evening on the lighted trails at tech. What is it about skiing at nite? Boy if I weren't already married, what a gem! AND she bought me some nachos after, I'm so loved!

RT- Sorry you're missing the trail happenings, but what wonderful "baking" your up to! Time to spruce up the polk for next winter! I was in your neck of the woods with a client last week, boy do I miss you Marquette mamas! Anyone seen Lakesuperiormama? I miss Ms. Sunshine!

Good chance I am moving back to Deerton before the baby comes. I'm missing the lake side...a half hour seems so far from the lake. The only time I've lived this far from Lake Superior was the year I put in in the mitten (to which I'll never return!).

I'm 23 weeks right now...getting big so fast! And, boy, does the baby move a lot, esp. in the wee hours.

LSmom? no real idea. We've had very little contact. Then again, I'm out in the farmland which seems eons away from the rest of the world.

20/20??

Did any of you watch 20/20! It was sooooooooooooooo good! Orgasmic birth, homebirths and extended breast feeding! It was a GREATTTTTTTTT show.
did not see it...don't have tv. But! It surprises me (and pleases me so) to hear that a mainstream show like 20/20 would have anything even close to these topics running! Perhaps it can be found online?

The MI Menonome has the Thai restaurarant.
Russianthistle, I am so happy you're brewing a young one, what a great time of the year to be snuggly and nest-y and maternal.
We lived in Misawa, which is ALL the way north on Honshu, the main island. It was all pine forests and rugged Pacific beaches and towering mountains and rural rice paddies and natural geothermic mineral baths. We dream of moving back some day. Maybe as JET teachers after the kids are grown? In the meantime, it is a good thing the co-op carries yummy miso and all the seaweed my girls can eat. I went to Okinawa twice, what a beautiful place, too.
Ladies, the skiing is fine this year. I am loving being a yooper. Powder up to your knees and spandex clad men zooming around. Life is good!

Might be coming to Marquette for a visit this month, can anyone tell me of any really kid friendly restraunts and activity centers?

Hands down, the Peter White Library! There is a little cafe in the basement (with amazing food!) of the library, just feet away from the children's area...we usually order food and eat in the children's area...C. will only allow so much time in the cafe before bolting for the trains..........

The Children's Museum (on Baraga Ave, next to the co-op) is also very worthy of kid-time!
