what is the difference btwn Saxon and Singapore math?

I just visited a homeschooling friend (hi Tyleah!) and she said she was using (i think it was) Singapore Math? That Saxon Math wasn't for her? I think that's what she said. I was wondering if you guys could explain the difference for me. Also, are there any other popular methods I should learn about?

My dd is only 2, but I'm trying to learn as much about our hs'ing options as possible. I want to be able to recognize what is right for her once she shows signs that she's ready to learn about a particular subject.

We've used both Saxon and Singapore, and both have their benefits. We started out with Saxon K; it has LOTS of repetition, which is great for getting concepts cemented, but we found that our son already knew just about everything in the K curriculum by the time we picked it up. He breezed through the whole thing in about 3 months. We moved to Miquon at that point and he loved it. It's a discovery program with Cuisenaire rods and he likes being able to pull out the concrete examples of each problem. I began to feel like we weren't getting to all the concepts we should, though, so we got Singapore for 1st grade. It is very thorough, does a great job of putting the concepts in order and is fun to look at too. BUT I found that some of the ways they show the child to solve the problems was very confusing for my son (for example, when adding double digit #s that would require you to carry or regroup, they had the student add the 10s place first, then the ones - totally backwards to everything else we'd done). We've finally gone back to Miquon again because that's the program that he says, "Yaaaay! Math!" to. I suggest you get your hands on different programs to see what works best before you buy anything.
