just want to make sure everythings ok...

...with ds's penis.

He's intact. 10mths old. I just noticed a couple of times at diaper changes, what looks like blood or pinkish spotting on his dipe. I looked closely at his wee penis and he did have a small pimple-looking spot right by the tip...so maybe the pink was from that?...

I asked my midwife about it...she said maybe with me being pregnant hes getting some extra hormones in the breast milk?

so, I just wanted to make sure it wasnt anything to worry about...like a kidney stone or something freaky like that...

tell me o wise ones

We've seen reports of these "pimple looking things" before. We haven't been able to positively identify them but it seems that they may be caused by an obstructed or plugged sebaceous gland or essentially the same thing as a pimple. All of the ones reported before have self resolved in a few days. Yes, this could be the source of the blood.

However, there is another very normal possibility and that is that the normal adhesions between the foreskin and glans are breaking down. There is a very comprehensive discussion in the "sticky" at the top of the forum main page titled "Red, Swollen or Inflamed Foreskin?"

Doesn't sound too serious to me. I had a thought along a different line than Frank though. I am not sure how pregnancy affects milk production but, have you noticed a change at all? I am asking because I know when Aunt Flo" comes to visit every month, my milk production goes down and Gavin has to nurse more frequently or else he gets a bit dehydrated. Being dehydrated can cause a pinkish or orangeish kind of discharge, similar to what happens in the newborn period before your milk comes in.

Anyhow, I also read your post in the other thread(about ballooning and how your doc advised you on it) so I thought I would post a couple of links for you to check out here,

http://www.mothering.com/articles/ne...uncircson.html

and,
http://www.cirp.org/library/normal/aap/

and,
http://www.cirp.org/library/normal/

If you are willing, maybe print out the one from the AAP and pass it along to that doc, just so he doesn't cause any little guys harm from his misinformation and bad advice.

Take care,
Tara

Aunt Flo? : : : First time I've heard it called that. I actually had to take a few seconds to figure it out.

You're right! It is uric crystals and many do think it is blood, It's also called 'Brick Dust' because of it's appearance.

If there are more pimples, you might want to get ds checked by the ped for a staph rash/impetigo. Or, if he is sleeping a long time, the wetness in the dipe can cause a few pimples that should resolve with a bath and some air time.

THANKYOU !! you guys are great!

Galatea ~The "pimple" has gone actually and no more so far...see below as far as sleeping a long time ...too busy nursing!

Frank...ok this is all making sense now...at first I thought it might be the "narrowing and growing closed" I was ment to be on the watch for... (now I know better ) and then it does make sense if it was his forskin doing its thing and "the normal adhesions between the foreskin and glans are breaking down"...Ill watch for that but...callumsmom2001..that actually sounds right on...I have noticed a decrease in my milk production...and ds has been waking up often in the night to nurse...actually its been almost constantly at night...

(I was thinking maybe its his teeth but that didnt quite seem to be it because neither of my kids have had any obvious discomfort with teething at all)

...then the other night I just offered him a glass of water and he gulped and gulped it down then happily went back to sleep...I bet he is dehidraited! poor guy. come to think of it he always gulps water when I give it to him...

Thanks again, I think that makes sense and Ive learned some important things...and thankyou very much for the links~ yes I will definatly be passing some info on to our Dr ... : by golly!!

I'm too late, but I was going to post the same thing as Callum's mom. I lost my milk early on in my pregnancy, so that was the first thing I thought of. Since your ds is still so little, you might want to think about supplementing w/ formula till he's a little older. I thought about doing that when I was pregnant, but ds was 18 mos old when I lost my milk so I couldn't justify the expense. I gave him Silk Enhanced soymilk instead. If he had been under a year or barely over, I would have tried formula. THere's stuff theat they need from either bm or formula that they just aren't likely to get from a regular diet. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones who still produce enough milk that he's ok as long as he gets a little more solids and water.

Btw, I'm enjoying tandem nursing now. I'd heard horror stories and the first few weeks were hard, but we're getting on track. Hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy and ds continues to enjoy his milkies!

Becha didn't think you were going to get such an up-close and personal glimpse into the world of women when you took up advocating for a male cause did ya Frank?

Take care,

Well, at risk of TMI here, I have always been comfortable with the normal functions of the human (female) body much to the surprise of my ex'es. I had not heard of Aunt Flo before.

I could have never imagined that I would have survived this long on a board that is 99% women without seriously tripping myself up or that I would have had the common interests with them to last this long.

I don't think of this as exclusively a male cause. It's the mothers who have been deceived for all of these years. There are victims on both sides of the sexual fence.

Genital mutilation is a human rights issue. MGM harms females as well, because women are the mothers of circed babies and the sexual partners/wives of circed men. FGM harms males, who lose out sexually, who lose their wives and daughters to higher mortality. Genital mutilation hurts all of us.

Oh Frank it's in so many TV shows movies ect!
One day you will be watching something you've seen before, hear aunt Flo and be like, "Oh my, that's what they were talking about?"

I know that's how I felt right after I learned what it meant a few year's back!

I only watch network TV for the news and tend to watch movies and History Channel, Discovery Channel and TLC so I don't see those things.

I think it's a cute name for something that many men have some disgust for. Makes it seem less *something.*
