Anybody ready for another decluttering challenge? - Page 2

I can see my desk!!!! I cleaned out all the piles on it. I filled a garbage bag with trash. Now to the filing cabinet. I also donated a bag of clothes, microwave and other miscellaneous items to our Birth Network yard sale....

THIS FEELS GREAT!!!

I'll give it a try--we're expecting a new baby in Feb and we're not moving, so there's no better time than now.

My shelves are bursting, but I have such a hard time giving away books--especially ones I can see kids reading in 10 years--I don't know how I'll get over that.
I even have musty, ancient encyclopedias from my childhood!

150, huh.

We have a hard time getting rid of books here too, although DH has agreed to part with all of his Tom Clancy and Michael Crichton books that he has already read and get them from the library in the future if he wants to read them again. I'm trying to get to the point where we are only keeping books we use for reference all the time, quality children's books that will be read and reread, books I know I will use for homeschooling, and books we want to read but can't get at the library or through ILL. I'm even going to part with my Star Trek novels from my childhood (I was a major Star Trek fan) because I know I won't read them again and they are just sitting in a box in the basement.

Okay, I'm going to really start today when the boys go down for their naps. I'm going to count some diapers and covers I have sold since the beginning of October as well.

So, 12 diapers and covers sold on the TP - either already sent out or waiting to be taken to the post iffice.

Plus an artificial Christmas tree I gave away on freecycle.

Total so far:13. I sure have a long way to go

OK, here's my tally so far:

11 items to Freecyclers
1 large stack of holiday catalogs recycled (ugh! It's not even Halloween yet!!)
3 sweaters donated to various people/places

This weekend:
1 headboard going to sister

Plus I plan to Freecycle a bunch more stuff this weekend.

A slow start, but it feels great to get things goin' on out the door!!

Just put out 2 strands of Christmas lights for a freecycler. So I'm at 15. Slow and steady wins the race, right???

Let's see, I put a bunch of baby shower decorations for a freecycler, I'm going to count that as 3. I put a book in the thrift store pile. And 5 sweaters to a freecycler.

I'm regifting some unopened Ventaire bottles to friend at her shower next week.

Cleaned out a box of yarn that had a bunch of cardboard in it. Why is that in there?

Plus, I started my box of stuff to sell (yarn, purse handles, other crafty stuff), but I'm going to wait until they are actually up for sale or sold to count them.

So, running total: 11.

I'm in for 150. I'm aiming for at least 100 clothing items, and 50 "other" items. Ebay & TP here I come! (And probably some Goodwill/Freecycle too, but I'm in need of cash just now.)

I'm in too. Are you including attics/basements in your purge or just main living spaces?

Personally, I'm going to start with living spaces, then move on to storage areas (attic and garage).

I'm adding to my list: Freecycled a stickvac and halloween decoration today.

I'm up to 18. Man, I have a long way to go!

I'm including our basement - we have to get everything out of it before we can start getting it finished.

Today I threw away a lot of small junky items - not worth counting really.

Threw away my old music theory worktext from college. (Why did I wait so long??)

1 shirt, 5 or so coloring books, a tub of plastic animals, 3 games, and about 15 pieces of kid's clothes waiting to be picked up from being listed on freecycle. Just listed 2 computer monitors and I am sure they will be gone soon so I am counting those as well.

So, my total is 43.

I'm in! 150 by Thanksgiving! (I think I can, I think I can... ). A couple nights ago we sorted through the gift wrap supplies and tossed a bunch, and freecycled some. Going to count each category as 5 things (more than 5, but some of it isn't worth counting each thing, but it's definitely worth more than just 1)

5: old paper and bows thrown away.
5: a TON of gift bags Freecycled
5: a stack of greeting cards Freecycled

If I make it to 150 I'll keep going. I really NEED to do this - we're visiting my parent's the week before Thanksgiving, and I KNOW I'll be coming home with stuff. Sigh

Ok I am in!

I thought it would be a good idea to have a White Elephant Party to get rid of some items that I didn't need or want in my house but, could be useful to others. So I invited several neighbor/friends and the items I had for trade were a bread machine and a serving platter. Everyone loved the idea and I had a great turn out. The funny part is that over half of the guest forgot to take their traded items home and I was left with more junk than I started with. Even the 200.00 bread machine I got for a wedding gift was left behind.

I'm in! I thought I'd already joined...but I guess I didn't make it that far!

Got rid of a ton this weekend I think I'll go for another 150 items before Thanksgiving...thanks for the challenge

Okay, just went through a couple shelves and I wanted to post my tally. I'm including items that are in the car ready to go, and items on the porch being picked up today.

21 magazines
1 end table
10 saved catalogs (not new ones - those are being tossed as they come in. These are ones I've had for years, "just in case I ever wanted to order from them : )
1 misc pile of paper junk
6 outdated computer manuals
3 sleepers
2 pair toddler shoes
1 school desk
2 chairs

That puts me at 49! I'm 1/3 of the way there!!! Yippee!!!
