Anybody ready for another decluttering challenge? - Page 3

I am in. I can do 150 by December 1st. I guess if you can get rid of your books, so can I... but it hurts
Our only storage space is closets, and under the bed so I am going to count everything. I'm hoping to eventually get under the bed cleared so we can get a king sized mattress and just put it on the floor. Theres my inspiration!

Today I got a lot of paper stuff thrown out, Aidan still isn't feeling well. I also sold a huge box of diapers that I am going to count as 40 I think there was more than that and 3 shirts, 4 hooded towels and 6 other baby items. So that brings me to 53. Hopefully I will get some more done soon!

So far I have gotten rid of

3 bags of baby clothes
1 bag of toddler clothes
2 bags of my clothes
1 bag of dh's clothes
1 shoe box full of NASTY plastic letters for the fridge that my SIL gave to me : (would it have been too much for you to wash them first? yuck!)
1 bag of under the sink bathroom stuff
1 Jonny jump up
1 infant bath tub

That brings me to 11. Woo Hoo, long way to go but I WILL get there before thanksgiving!!

I'm in! 150 by Thanksgiving sounds good to me. Now, do I count children's clothing hangers individually? I should probably just count them as one lump item, right?

I'm psyched!
25 books donated to local library
15 articles of clothing
2 pair of shoes
2 baskets
1 dry erase wall calendar

I'm up to 45...I've got a ways to go...better hit the basement....
OH...I did USE the fabric I bought a year ago to make throw pillows...so I used * yards fabric, 4 pillows....does that count as 5 more? They are no longer taking up shelf space and are not being USED!!! Yay!!!! Makes me feel better, even if doesn't count!!

3 days ago I signed on to this and I was very excited but, success has been slow due to the rant below. I did clean out the frig and organize it. Since, I have been able to use items that would have been lost in there and save some money.

Rant
My dh and I have been really working hard on organizing but, it seems like we never get it right. We have tackled the garage 4 times this yr and there is still work that need to be done. My house is free of obvious clutter but, I have tons of trouble spots where things get put in a hurry and they never leave. I have concluded that this job wouldn't be so overwhelming if this wasn't my house, the personal attachment (not to items but, the frustration of never being finished) have gotten be down and I don't know where to start.

The bad part is that I STILL have several folders of old catalogs (just in case...) : They were stored in a different location, so I haven't sorted them yet. Maybe I'll tackle that next.

Wait...your only counting each bag as one item! Wow...I'd never make it if I did that. I'm counting mostly individual things, unless it is more work to count the items than it is to get rid of it. Or if they are so small that it doesn't seem reasonable to count each item. Like, a box of CD cases I counted as 1 item, and a bag of hangers was 1 item, but my magazines I counted individually.

On that note I am up to 125!!! I wonder how high I can go???

Celrae, I totally feel for you about this

I feel like I am constantly organizing and re-organizing, and decluttering...it just never ends. Sometimes I wonder if I'm just wasting time, and if shifting things from one place in the closet to another really makes any difference. You want to come over and throw my stuff away and I'll come to your house and throw your stuff away?

Count me in for 150 by Thanksgiving. I will be putting summer clothes away and breaking out the fall/winter. I've decided this year I'm tossing EVERYTHING that doesn't fit and stop holding on to things that I haven't fit into for YEARS. Plus I do want to get my basement straightened out some before Christmas.

Well I better get busy.

This past weekend:
stickvac and Halloween decoration to freecycler

Today was a good one:

Mattress, box spring and frame to freecycler
recycled a box of smaller boxes :
5 personal product items to another freecycler
recycled 3 manuals/training books from old job
recycled 1 stack of papers
donated old prescription glasses
reviewed/clipped/recycled stack of magazines while DD nursed/napped

So, I'm calling my total now: 33
(It's really higher than that, but to keep myself motivated, I am only counting stacks, piles and boxes as 1 item)

Tomorrow I am meeting a "cheapcycler" and selling 7 more items (for only $5, but hey, they are out of my house!!!)

I think books are next. We need to rearrange some furniture now that DD is crawling...

Thanks for the offer! I keep trying to convince my neighbor that we should reorganize each others houses. I think that is the only way to get it done. However, a friend of mine pays $450 a month for a cleaning/organizing service, it may just be a never ending task.
i could so use 450.00 a month. anyone wanna pay for a flight i'll come and organize and clean monthly...

I have 9 trash bags full of clothes plus two HUGE boxes and two smallish boxes full of stuff for the company that is coming by tomorrow to pick it up. I also have a playpen and a bike rack to put out there for them. I have no idea how many items are contained but I know I am feeling much less cluttered

Well, I hit 150 yesterday. Recycled another 25+ old catalogs.

I'm still going. I haven't done the closets yet - I'm hoping to find a bunch of clothes to give away. I should probably re-visit the bookcases again, too. We gave away a ton of books in August (another one who has a hard time parting with books), but we still have overflowing bookshelves. Of course, can't keep the bookshelves organized with a 18mo old who loves to pull them off the shelves.

I still feel like my house is just overflowing with "stuff"! I've got piles of my DD's art that I need to sort, decide what to keep, etc. That's so hard. And I haven't seriously tackled the playroom yet, either. Did get some things organized/cleaned up, but we still have TOO MUCH!!!
