Looking FOr DEM in Cincinnati Area

DH and I are TTC #2 and I really want a home birth - I have had a CNM with DD. I cannot afford her attendance at a homebirth due to insurance covereage but I can afford a DEM. I have also heard absolute RAVES about DEM's with homebirths and am interested in exploring this for my next birth.

If anyoen has any information I woudl REALLY appreciate it!

She leads the Cincinnati chapter of the International Cesarean Awareness Network and had a home birth herself with a DEM. She is in contact with a lot of midwives, doulas, etc. and can certainly give you some places to start. You might consider also attending the ICAN meetings, it's a great way to "talk birth" in person (don't have to have had a c-section -- but it certainly could help you avoid one!).

I also live in cincy, am an aspiring midwife, and am having a homebirth for # 1, due mid march. Am also newsletter editor for Ohio Friends Of Midwives (OFOM - www.ofom.org), and one of our 2 state co-ordinators lives here in cincy too.

PM me if you'd like, I can give you my phone # and would be happy to talk about my experience looking for a DEM. I can tell you it isn't easy... unfortunately there are no DEMs living _in_ the cincinnati area, but there are some willing to trave here from KY, etc.

We (OFOM) are also looking into holding meetings here in cincy, to talk about birth stories, explore options for birth, get support for the choice of DEM in Ohio, please let me know if you'd be interested in coming to something like that, we'd love to expand our little group.
