My son was born VBAC at home this summer. He weighed 12 pounds 1.6 ounces.

My daughter, born in 2000, was born cesarean, prior to onset of labor, for being a big baby, 11 pounds 5 ounces. I was told she was too big to be born.

Home is the only way I would ever have a baby again.

I will be going for VBAC shortly, due date is 2/7, in a fairly progressive hospital with a large alternative clientele with a CNM group (no OB). My group used to run the "alternative birth center" that was shut down at the hopsital for lack of patients, they seem pretty granola. Of course my first choice would be home, but neither I nor DH are completely comfortable with the what if's and hospital is really the best place for us to be mentally I think. ALtho I dread it. LOL

For my VBAC last Feb. I labored at home with my doula until I started pushing, then we left to go to the hospital. I had no support for a homebirth and really I didnt have a lot of confidence in myself either. I should have though. My water broke right after we got in the car and my baby was crowning when we arrived at the hospital. I touched her head and she was born 2 pushes (and 12 minutes) later. It was hard trying not to push in the car. Next time I will just stay home. I loved it though. It was a beautiful day.

Well...

I will try at home, but dh is a little worrysome. So I have planned to transfer if he gets unnerved.

I checked out the hospitals here and where I'm from (Cali).
Here they are almost like birthing at home, so I have no issues if I have to transfer.
If I was still in Cali, I don't think you could get me to even consider a hospital birth unless it was life or death.
Big differences in the mindsets of the staff and countries!

It was such a healing experience for me.

The first birth started as a homebirth, but later transported and wound up with a c-sec. The idea of a hospital birth, let alone a surgical one, had never come into our minds. We were completely unprepared and exhausted when we transported and our midwives basically bailed
We planned a hb for the second, but were much more prepared. It was amazing!

I'm not pregnant yet. TTC #2. But when we do, we will have the baby at home! I'm not going back to a hospital if I can help it!

I'm also not pregnant yet. But have decided to try for an HBAC. I don't want to be NEAR any knives or needles when I'm in labor.

My first was hospital vaginal with vacumn extraction. DD.

My second was c-section due to footling breech. DS.

Except for those of us who chose MEDwives : who have a lower rate of VBAC than a local hospital.

DH is SO terrified of a home birth - after almost losing both of us with #2. I don't see how I could do it - I secretly hope that labor is in fact faster with #4 and I just "accidentally" have him/her at home.

Plus, I suppose I lack the confidence in myself. I know - I made it through a hospital VBAC, so I can make it through anything, right?

I wish so badly that we had an ABC in the hospital (or nearby) I *know* I could get him to do that.

Midwives who bailed - homebirth that failed - please tell me more (for the sake of being informed of all possible outcomes)?

I have a lot of fears from my past experiences and I am working on getting past them before we TTC again.

I plan on having a midwife but I am not comfortable with the idea of an HBAC quite yet.

There are a number of birth centers now which are not accepting VBAC ladies....... the only one in my area, will not accept you there if you've had a c-section. So thats why I'm going to go for a HBAC, with a midwife.

I VBAC'd at a hospital, not really wanting a VBAC. A friend had recentley lost a baby during a rupture and I was really scared. My doctor was really pushing for the VBAC (yeah, I know this isn't how its supposed to be). I pushed out my DD in four easy pushes, no problems!

I talked with my doc about a VBAC after the twins and he said it was up to me. My DH said he felt that 1% was too much of a risk. I have to say, I don't feel any less of a momma than I did after my first, who was born in the regular manner. In fact, I feel more like a mom!! If we have another, I probably will be advised to have a C-Section again, as I have had two. I'll also get "fixed." One stop shop (or chop).

My first was a homebirth-turned-hospital-c-section due to malpositioning. My daughter was born in a progressive hospital here (no such thing as a birth center in France). I arrived at 8 cms, they didn't have much choice! I did have forceps with no drugs, which I do not recommend, but I didn't have much choice by that time. The midwife and doctor were awesome.

My experience is that I planned and HAD a VBAC at a hospital. Local birthing centers would not take me and my insurance does not cover homebirth.

I am pregnant with #3 and I want to have a homebirth, but I don't know if we will be able to afford it. Seeing I have had a successful VBAC, I am hoping that I can find a birth center that will work with me. I am in the process of gathering my resources.
